Sowing the Wind (Ultimatum to the US from Arab News - [guffaw!])
Arab News ^ | 3.23.04

The murder of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin by Israel was an act of terrorism, and an insane one at that. It has not only opened the gates of hell, as one incensed Hamas official declared, it has also slammed shut the door of peace.

If for one moment the Israeli leadership imagined that assassinating the Hamas leader would stem the tide of violence, they were deluded. Sheikh Yassin’s murder will not diminish suicide killings, it will increase them. Hamas will want to retaliate, as massively as possible, to retain credibility in Palestinian eyes. Other groups too, such as Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and Islamic Jihad, will retaliate, because they want revenge and because they too want to gain credibility and prove that they are the viable, powerful, sole opposition to the Israelis. They will rush to wrap themselves in a bloody martyrs’ flag — and young men and women will be readier than ever to lay down their lives as suicide bombers.

For Israel, the Sheikh may have seemed to a major part of the problem. But he was also potentially a significant part of the solution. By killing Hamas’ spiritual head, the Israelis have struck down someone they might one day have been able to talk to. Their missiles have killed a leader who enjoyed massive respect, who could have called a halt to militant violence, and would have been listened to had he done so.

Instead, Israel will reap the whirlwind. There is likely to be a struggle for power within Hamas and between Hamas and its rivals. But that struggle will be played out through suicide bombs and counted in the number of dead Israelis. The killing will be anarchic, uncoordinated, but all the more deadly — and it is entirely Sharon’s doing. He doubtless hopes that such an overspill of violence will turn Palestinians into targets for George Bush’s “war on terror”. He is clearly willing to sacrifice Israeli lives for the sake of destabilizing the Palestinian resistance. Either way it is clearer than ever that he is utterly ruthless and will stop at nothing, and no one. Is Arafat next? The gloves are off. Nothing can be ruled out. At this critical time, the Palestinians stand united against Israel; so do the Arabs. But that is not enough. There must be a determination at last to force Israel to halt its murders. It has canceled a meeting with Qorei. It must be forced to the negotiating table, forced into concessions. There is only one state that can do this. The US.

We demand action by Washington to rein in the Israeli murderers, to stop Israeli terror. Is Washington sincere in its commitment to justice, or is it as usual only going to mouth platitudes and do nothing? To quote George Bush, if it is not with us, it is against us.

"young men and women will be readier than ever to lay down their lives as suicide bombers."
Or is that what you want... filthy terrorists. Arab news headquarters should be on the target list in the War on Terror.

And how, exactly, have things changed except for there being one less member of Hamas?

"It has not only opened the gates of hell"

I am so sorry but you are quite mistaken. We Texans own Hell and the gates open when we say open they and they close when we say they close.

What a pathetic joke! Terrorists don't talk, they kill, unless they are killed first.

The only quarrel I have with the Israelis is that they didn't take out more of Hamas's network in their strike. Hit a bear once and you'd better kill him.

Oh, good...it must mean they are finally going to saturation bomb the "Palestinian Refugee"* camps.

I hope that someone from the Arab News bothers to find and read this thread. Here's the reply: In WW II we killed Germans and Japanese until the surviving Germans and Japanese decided to stop fighting. Every nation that has ever found itself in a war has followed the same philosophy.

So, here'e the message to the Arab News and to all Muslims who haven't gotten the message yet. Israel has decided to kill Hammas leaders and members until there are none left who want to keep fighting. Any hope by Arabs that the US will turn its back on Israel as it kills deadly Arabs, is misplaced. We will remember our own history, and we will support such efforts by Israel more and more.

Murderous Muslims (probably a minority) and murderous Palestinians (unfortunately a majority) are going to die in increasing numbers. Others will die of disease, because their medical care is rotten, or die prematurely of lack of good food, due to lack of jobs. In short, these people willo die because they are just as stupid in just the same way as the late, but not so great, Yassin.

If any Muslims misunderstand that message, I'll be happy to translate itself into words of one syllable or less.

"Other groups too, such as Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and Islamic Jihad, will retaliate, because they want revenge and because they too want to gain credibility and prove that they are the viable, powerful, sole opposition to the Israelis."

So let me get this straight, three terrorist groups are fighting among themselves as to who is the top dog (yes, the wording is intentional). And the way they prove this is by counting who ever can kill the most Israelis? All because they want to be the only terrorist organization that can "officially" kill innocents in the name of Palestine?

These people are beyond evil. I don't condone it, but I understand what makes people want to nuke these terrorists. I would not rejoice at the outcome if this were to happen, but like many others, I would not be choked up about it either.

Best Regards

Sergio

Yeah, this crusty critter was around for DECADES. Either he was an enabler (for not calling for peace) or a promoter (by keeping ties with hamas) of terrorism. If he wanted peace at anytime, then he would've called for a halt and sever ties with hamas. He didn't and now he's dead. He chose poorly.

The only peace will come through total victory. No amount of chit chat will ever work, ever.

No matter how much Nevil Chamberlin talked with Hitler, there would be no peach without victory.

Same for the middle east. It is a fact everyone is refusing to accept.

Heh. I clipped an article from about 1952 that was written by a professor from New Mexico State University. I forget what it was about exactly (state economics problems, IIRC), but the closing line was “Poor New Mexico – so far from heaven, so close to Texas.” Ha.

Hamas is thrashing around violently, exactly like a watermoccasin with its head cut off. Lots of activity, but its dead. In a year it will be burried and mostly forgotten.

I don't think the Arabs understand that Israel WANTS to escalate this. They certainly considered the response killing the 'spiritual leader' of the Hamas terror organization would have. They are anything but short-sighted. Killing this dirtbag will bring many more of these roaches out into the light where they can be stomped on.
