I've said this fo years. Nicotine is a very good drug.....it's the delivery system that's bad.

For some, nicotine prevents dying of old age.

"to try and kick the habit"

Please forgive the mini-rant, but here I go. If anyone in the world shapes up after reading this I'd be happy, if I were able to ever know such a thing. In virtually every case, one does not "try and do something," but "try TO do something." The use of the word "AND" implies a guaranteed success after trying. The use of the word "TO" implies the hope of being successful - that is why one is "trying." Please, please, please my psychiatrist said that I must, "Try and accept this idiotic usage," but unfortunately he is no longer alive. I wanted to try to stop, but I didn't succeed!

Remind me to try and kick the habit of correcting peoples' grammar after I try and quit the smoking.

I knew this was going to happen. Once cigarettes reach a price per pack 'deemed appropriate'-(about $7.00/pack at currentprices)- by the trash that is allowed to hold office in America 2004 A.D. benefits will be found. Soon it will be published that it is ok to smoke, 'as long as one does it in moderation!' You heard it here first kiddies!

How funny! I'm not a person prone to vice but smoking has really been the one thing that I find hard to give up. It helps me to relax, contemplate, chill...

So I have this saying that "Some people drink to forget but I smoke to remember."

I never knew how true that was!

Your peeve reminds me of mine: people who must say "utilize" instead of the perfectly good "use".

Likely true. And it has the virtue of being logical. Most things are ok if done in moderation. There are some overly sensitive people who react to even trace amounts but for most people moderation works just fine.

I hear you. It's an English Major thing. I am forever telling hubby that he is not "anxious" to hear about X: he is "eager".

Only if he is not afraid to hear it.
