True, true. Probably was not the most apt description that I could have used. Dated 2 women that claimed to be divorced.

One might have been a keeper; she wasn't too interested in any men, though. The rat that she married got her pregnant and then left. Sad. I would have had trust issues after that, as well.

The second told me that she was divorced. Her husband came home on us one day, though, and had other opinions on the matter. That was the day that I learned the difference between a divorce and a separation. :-) Didn't stick around to get total clarity on the subject.

I didn't hook up with Miss Perfect until I was 35. Up to that time it was a seemingly endless stream of floozies, airheads, and dingbats.

In NYC, there are more single women than men, IIRC.

I have an acquaintance (married woman) at work warn me away from THAT. I still don't know whether her concern is/was justified or just sour grapes.

If you haven't read it yet, check out "Balsamic Dreams" by Joe Queenan. A Gen-W'er nails his fellow Boomers with a perfect 10-0 score.

In NYC, a normal straight guy with a decent paycheck can have the pick of the litter of these insane sex and the City skanks. However, they are only good for one thing and are not marriage material. If a guy wants a superficial relationship, they're not a bad option, just make sure you treat them badly more often than you treat them nicely. I actually feel sorry for them, to some extent.

So, just exactly what are "Boomers" supposed to stand for? I'm 53, was raised in the South, have worked since I was 16, served in the Navy, am very conservative. What exactly am I supposed to have done to the precious x'ers? What's all the hand-wringing about? I really don't see this country lasting long enough for the X'ers to have to pay for anybodies retirement.

The article might have been about Australia, but I think it is a pretty accurate assessment of many women here in the US in that age bracket. At least from my anecdotal evidence.

the one thing that I found is that as much as women complain about there being no suitable guys, men have much the same problem.

Bump to that.

Oh in NY, alot more single guys then single woman.

In the DC area, it's very much the other way around. Of course, fully half of them are airheads looking for their chance to monicate some important politician, while working in menial jobs for insignificant pay.

The question is, does any guy in his right mind want to be with some deep-as-a-bird-bath chicklet like some of these urban loserettes? The bizarre thing is that as they age and their options decline, their flakiness, bitchiness and dictatorial tendencies increase, until they're 42, living with two cats, childless, without prospects and just plain miserable to be around. (Which is a lot better than arriving at that emotional point whn married to you, I suppose).

An interesting take on this phenomenon is found in the Ross in Range columns of John Ross (yes, the John Ross, for you gun-culture types), particularly #s 3, 14, 24, and 28, which probably ought to be read in that order.

d.o.l.

"So, just exactly what are 'Boomers' supposed to stand for?"

I have listened to fellow boomers take credit for the civil rights movement, although Rosa Parks, Medgar Evers and others were not white hippies. Boomers take credit for "ending communism" with the fall of the Soviet Union, but I don't think Reagan did it by aiming giant speakers at Moscow and blasting Pink Floyd's "The Wall" 24 hours a day until Gorbachev said "Nyet!".

Maybe boomers are partly responsible for the explosion of the 'net, but the same generation is now working even more tirelessly to become a global hall monitor and torch the Bill of Rights.

I agree that these huge government programs that nobody can afford anymore are on their way out. The only way out I see is for the U.S. to default on some of these bills that will never be paid off anyway.

I think you've coined a great new word for the English language. At least I haven't seen it before. Hope it'll catch on and make the next edition of the OED :-)

just as a point of detail, this article was about Australia.

Some of the examples were from the Upper West side NYC

I know quite a few 'quirky alone' women in their late 20s and older in nyc, and the truth is that the use of 'quirky' is very generous. Most are downright batty and really suffer for not having a consistent, committed male presence in their lives.

Me, I am 36 and only date women 23-27. I like it that way.

I hate to admit it, but I actually joined Together Dating at one point which was mentioned in the article you linked. It was the worst rip off of my life.
I was supposed to receive 12 referrals in an approx 12 month period. I received only 4 in that 12 month period- 2 of them weren't my cup of tea (not much chemistry) although I did try to follow up with both of them, 1 was "already seeing someone", and the other gaffed me off after one conversation refusing to meet me after being asked a few questions. The staff at Together would not grant me credit for the 2 referrals that did not result in a meeting, and the referrals stopped altogether after I refused to cough up an additional $200.00 or $300.00 for a compatibility test they offered me 8 months into the membership that I should have been given when I first signed up for $1995.00. I have seen articles like this before, and I believe them to be false advertising aimed at exploiting lonely men like myself. I can't see ever trusting an "agency" with that much money up front ever again. Especially since they are primarily run by women for women.
