Other facts on Claremont McKenna teacher asked before filing case

CLAREMONT -- The District Attorney's Office has asked the police to provide more information about a Claremont McKenna professor, whom police said vandalized her own car and reported it as a hate crime, before a case can be filed.

Claremont police will provide the additional information to the district attorney sometime during the next week, said police Lt. Stan Van Horn.

"We do not have a suspect in custody so there is time to have a thorough and complete investigation by the Police Department and a thorough investigation of the information by the District Attorney's Office,' said Sandi Gibbons, public information officer for the Los Angeles County district attorney.

The Police Department on Tuesday presented some of the evidence it had to the District Attorney's Office but indicated there was additional information, Gibbons said. Her office asked police to do further work on certain areas before they present the entire case.

"This happens in about 50 percent of the cases we take to the District Attorney's Office,' Van Horn said.

Officials with neither agency would not elaborate on the additional evidence needed.

Based on witnesses' statements and inconsistencies in the statements Kerri F. Dunn made during her interview, Van Horn said he still believes she vandalized her own car.

Dunn's lawyer, Gary Lincenberg, did not return multiple phone calls for comment Thursday.

In the wake of several incidents that heightened racial tensions at the colleges, including a racial slur scribbled on a calendar and a cross burning, Dunn spoke at a forum about free speech and hate crimes March 9. After the forum, the Redlands resident told police she found her car's tires slashed, windows broken and racial slurs spray- painted on it.

Investigators say two witnesses saw Dunn vandalize her car before the forum, but Dunn maintains that others are responsible for the damage.

The colleges canceled classes March 10 to allow students and faculty to participate in rallies and discussions about hate crimes and intolerance.

Claremont McKenna College placed Dunn on temporary paid leave while the incident is investigated.

""We do not have a suspect in custody so there is time to have a thorough and complete investigation by the Police Department "

And in the meantime how many more of her cars will she vandalize? None of her cars are safe as long as she is free to prey upon them.

None of her cars are safe as long as she is free to prey upon them.

Except for any SUVs she may own; SUVs, as we all know, can act independently and even aggressively.
