Problem is, the President's comments were NOT appropriate and opened himself up to legitimate criticism that he should not be making jokes about the Iraq war when brave soldiers are being butchered everyday by the enemy.
I don't know who is advising him but they should be fired. What idiots.

Agreed.

I wouldn't bother with a CNN poll. Rigged from the beginning.

I agree. Whether it was a joke or not (and I found it funny) somebody should have thought ahead and seen how it could be used against the President politically.

Repeat after me, folks. Come on now, you can do it!
Polls [particularly CNN polls] are not meant to predict behaviour, rather polls are meant to influence behaviour.
there, that wasn't so hard, was it?

Voted-BUMP!
When the Liberal democrats try to make a mountain out of a mole hill the media provides the dirt. When Conservative Republicans remind the media that the mountain is just a mole hill the media assaults them with mud balls made from that same dirt.

At least as appropriate as the ones Clinton told when he went to the journalist's dinner.

WE HAVE A PROBLEM.
The Dems have arranged book publication as part of the campaign. Clarke was a nobody. No one had heard of him. The Dems orchestrated the invitation from the commission -- probably through a Dem member of the commission -- and also orchestrated the coordination with the publication schedule.
We must not let this happen again. Book Publication lets them define the news cycle. Authors are invited to come on TV and talk about their accusations and then suddenly it becomes news to say "The White House once again came under fire from a new book and its author who says . . . .
It's an excellent Dem tactic and it needs a counter.
Rove needs to be inside the various publishers to see what is coming next. And where are our own books in transit?

Ask any parent or loved one of any of our dead GIs if the WMD 'joke' was so funny. I fully support President Bush and will do so in November, but that 'joke' clearly crossed the line.
To: chilepepper
Exactly. Incredible how many freepers don't understand the importance of public perception. This is a ground war.
To: FlashBack
Of course the jokes were highly appropriate. The media were present and they were laughing very hard. Even CNN reporters were howling. Now that Kerry is upset by Bush's self-decrecating humor, CNN decides to post a poll on the subject! ?? Gimme a break! Humor is exactly what is needed!

Notice how CNN images Condi.
Her professionalism and competence is distorted by a photo showing her frowning and mean.
CNN is nothing more and and nothing less than Pravda at its worst.

Let me know when there's a poll asking if a Kerry is fit to be president since he sat in on meetings that discussed the assassination of sitting US senators who supported the Viet Nam war?
