The old Cisneros magic is still in working order(Barf Alert!)

Could dynamic leader one day return to public life? Let's hope so.

It's an ancient, wheezy saw that has long since attained cliche status, but, as is the case with so many cliches, there is an irreducible kernel of truth at its center: "Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: It might have been."

The line came to mind almost automatically on the occasion of an appearance here Monday by former San Antonio Mayor (and former Clinton administration secretary of Housing and Urban Development). Personal indiscretions resulted in his exit from politics years ago - a loss to him and to Texas.

Addressing the same TDNA gathering referred to in the above editorial, Cisneros brought his own brand of personal and political magic to the occasion as he stressed the need to understand the steadily growing vitality and all but unlimited potential of the nation's Hispanic community.

In terms of purchasing power, vigor and motivation, he said, the role and the importance of that community will grow inexorably with the passage of time - and it would be pure folly not to recognize, and act on, that reality.

Coming from another, the words might not have caused much of a stir: It's doubtful there was a single individual in attendance who hadn't heard the message elsewhere.

But, as is always the case with Cisneros, his energy and his intellectual sharpness revitalized and underlined a message that urgently needs to reach Americans at every level.

And it also raised the hope that, at some point, Cisneros may again find his way into public life.

I met Cisneros when he was Mayor in San Antonio. My husband and I attended an opening for a restaurant and he was the 'star' attraction.

I was in my early 30's, blonde and petite. He gave me the lookover and I wanted to go home and take a shower. He's a sleazy slimeball.

Blech!

" Cisneros may again find his way into public life."

Hopefully, his next appearance in public will be in a red jumpsuit with state supplied "accessories".

He was fooling around with a female HUD employee while he was Secretary. I know people who have proof.

I don't doubt that at all. Just from the way he looked at me, if I had given him any encouragement at all I could've fooled around with him.

He's predatory when it comes females.

...former San Antonio Mayor (and former Clinton administration secretary of Housing and Urban Development).

And presently a convicted felon, IIRC.

Did he try to interest you in an unneeded, useless, ugly covered stadium while he was there?
