In Sherman's Wake April 1, 2004

The Things You Do For A Friend

What a coincidence that the recently reincarnated In Sherman's Wake column makes it's return on April FoolsDay. Man how time flies. Seems like only yesterday my friend Jarrod H. Cline approached me about starting a conservative college newspaper that we eventually called the Kennesaw Spectator. And now my good friend has once again asked for my assistance in a new project- The Southern Spectator. The things you do for a friend...

The column's first volley is fired at Massachusets liberal John F. Kerry - with the F standing for failure on the standard A, B, C, D, F grading system. President Bush took a hit in the polls recently as a result of the coordinated testimony and book release of Richard "Dick" Clarke. For instance, the Rasmussen Presidential Tracking Polll showed Kerry with up to a four point lead on March 25, the day after Clarke's testimony (seeRasmussenReports.Com). However, Bush has now recovered in the polls and polling data now shows that a majority of people question the political motives of Dick's book and appearance before the 9/11 Commission.

How does Kerry fit into this? Well that's exactly the point - he doesn't. But his ego and political ineptness would not allow him to sit this issue out and take the high ground. Nope, not John - instead he jumped head first (similar to the way he falls when snowboarding) into the fray and in the process demonstrated exactly how political the 9/11 Commission investigative process has become.

Bush's poll numbers started going back up as Kerry's mouth started opening back up. It's that simple. Just one in a number of mistakes John F. Kerry has made (and will continue to make) in this election year. It's really, really hard to understand why the Democrats did not go with John Edwards - a Southern Senator who has more political charm in his little finger than Kerry has in his long face.

There's a lot more do discuss, but it's almost time for the green flag to fall at Bristol Motor Speedway...Until next time, lock your barn doors and stay out of Sherman's wake.

The Southern Spectator salutes our military, police, first responders, and our President.
