Why is it that those of us born from 1955 to 1965 get lumped in with the baby boomers? Most of us have nothing in common with the hippie commies born from 1940 to 1955.

"Most of us have nothing in common with the hippie commies born from 1940 to 1955."
And many of us born between 1940 and 1955 don't have anything in common with them either! ;)

FYI baby boomers are defined as having been born between 1946 and 1960. That might make you one. Oh, the horror!

The baby boom gets blocked by the years of higher birthrate. A person is not defined by the brightest or dimmest minds of his generation but he has to deal with the consequences of the acts of all of them.

Why is it that those of us born from 1955 to 1965 get lumped in with the baby boomers? Most of us have nothing in common with the hippie commies born from 1940 to 1955. Researchers use various criteria to determine the boundaries between the generations, depending on the focus of their study.
The "Baby Boom" as determined by number of births, covers the years from 1946 to 1964. Some researchers count the Boomers born from 1961 through 1964 as part of the next (Gen-X) generation, because they self-identify socially and politically with that generation.
Many of the Boomers have nothing in common with "the hippie commies" other than age grouping, but the fact is that the liberals of the Boomer generation far outnumbered the conservatives. Liberal Boomers control most of the decision-making positions in government and business, and will for the next few (hopefully very few) years.

a "generation" lasts 20 years - hence 1945-1965 "baby boomers"; 1966-1985 - "Generation X"; 1986-2005 - donno (they don't have enough money yet to have a title).
