Dubya and the briar patch

DUBYA AND THE BRIAR PATCH

"Whatever ya do, brother Fox, please don't fling me in that briar patch!" - Brer Rabbit

The sadistic yet incredibly stupid Democrats have just committed one of their most incredible blunders, thanks to Dick Clarke and his book promotion before the 9/11 Special Committee.

Clarke insisted that Condoleeza Rice testify in an open session, knowing full well that this would break tremendous precedent and threaten the future of the confidentiality between a President and his advisors. The Dems went right along, accusing Dr. Rice of trying to hide something, and each and every one of them fell for the trap, and hurled Condi into the briar patch.

The fox is about to get skinned alive - I bet the shirt off my back that neither Clarke nor the Democrats actually expected Rice to be allowed to testified [sic]. They thought they were going to get a free political pass to bash the Bush Administration and blame them for a coverup that never existed.

But now that Condoleeza Rice, PhD in political science and a very articulate and bright woman who may very well be a viable Presidential candidate in 2008, is going to hand the idiots their butts in a sling.

I'm thinking that maybe - just maybe - this wasn't a decision grudgingly made by the President. I have a strong feeling that the President set the snare and the Democrats, blinded by hate, rage, and envy, fell headfirst into the trap. Now they're about to get shocked back into reality when Rice testifies under oath, and digs up the foul-smelling stench of the last Administration.

Clarke and all his liberal minions are going to be exposed for their doublespeak and deception, and September 11, at least the political side of it is going to be put to bed so our country can at last focus once again on the real culprits who still actively seek every American's death.

And until the Democrats learn to make choices on reality instead of being driven by emotion, they'll be caught in the snare each and every time in the future. I don't expect that to happen in the near future; do you?

I saw the foregoing on a message board of a stock I follow. Since the writer used a screen name, and probably didn't count on his words being posted on Free Republic (though he or she sure sounds like one of "us"), it seems pointless to provide a link. I assume the words are original with this anonymous author, but I have no way of knowing for sure.

But regardless of the origin, it is well written, and makes some excellent points.

It is a good scenario but the WH needs to give Dr Rice a through preparation... She needs to be coached like a Clintonista on what to answer and how to answer. When to act remorseful and when to act insulted... This will be the performance of her life and she needs to go in fully armed and ready to face Ben Viniste and the throughly partisan Gorlick, ready to give them the distain they deserve.

This is a priceless opportunity for Rice. If she can smoke the weasels she may elevate her political chances far beyond anything Hillary can hope for. I hope she pulls it off.

This is exactly what I told my boss this morning. I even mentioned the tar-baby. I think the White House set a trap and the Dems fell into it. The only way they could get her in front of that panel to say what they need her to say, without appearing defensive, was to have the Dems demand it and then appear to cave in to those demands.

Excellently perfectly written - except for the last line -

"until the dems LEARN to make CHOICES on REALITY instead of being driven by EMOTION..

The dems are not able to do this.

Can you imagine a race in 2008 between Rice and Hillary? Oh my gosh!! Of course I would vote for Rice in a heartbeat. She has more sense, intellegence (they are not one in the same)and grace in her little finger then Hillary has all together.

I'm dying to see this. I pray that the regular channels show this live, or we can find a place that has cable to watch this.

This is just delicious. What if the Dems back out?

I would also vote for her. Hillary wouldn't debate Condi if her life depended on it }:-D

She needs to be prepared for sure, but I would stay away from the terms "coached" and "Clitonista." I always thought Clinton Administration officials testified in an over-scripted fashion and were less believable in consequence. Unlike the Clitonistas, further, the truth is mostly on her side: it is clear terrorism was an important priority to Bush (and that is the simple message she must get across).

It is sad that the Bush Administration had to rewrite the anti-terrorism strategy of the Clinton years (the ineffecualness of which was made clear by the Cole bombing and the 9/11 plotting, which began long before Bush was elected), but the public will understand the truth that 9/11 happened before the new strategy could be put into effect. She must come across as truthful and not coached, but also as thoroughly prepared.

Read the note on your home page. If you send JimRob a FReepmail outlining your screen name / Email situation, I believe he can fix it.

Then they look like spineless, politically-partisan power-grabbing weasels.

They are soooo screwed. If she testifies she can dig up all the dirt on any of them who were in congress at that time (as well as the entire clinton crime family). If she doesn't testify it's becuase they wimped out.

America will notice and remember

God is so good to us to give us a President like George Bush

I think you are exactly right. She can go up there as indignant about Clarke's lies rather than responsive to perceived political damage. The press is still trying to sell it as a defensive move, but if Rice sets the right mood before the committee, it will look like she was the victim of a cheap shot when her enemies thought her hands were tied (which she was). Her opening statement should be to thank the committee and President Bush for giving her an opportunity to respond that she would normally not have.

As someone pointed out here-- of course they didn't expect it. Liberals have plenty to hide and thought Bush did, too. Of course, Bush wouldn't let Condi spill the beans-- they'd be horrifying.

I think using Rice's appearance to trash Democrats would be a mistake. Clearly she may have to fault strategies by the Clinton Administration or go into what the incoming Bush Administration was or was not told during the transition, but she shouldn't spend her time in the spotlight attacking Democrats, but telling what she and the Administration did correctly. It is a time to highlight Bush's leadership on terrorism, both before and after 9/11. The Democrats will look poor by comparison.

I heard Rush say this week or last that liberals wanted to hurt Condi in case she replaced Cheney. I'd, of course, heard this, but I thought it funny that Rush mentioned it. Maybe he knows something.

Beware the unexpected from the RATS and their media handmaidens. They won't start out by challenging Dr. Rice on matters of substance; rather, they are gonna peddle the emotional stuff -- how do you feel, shouldn't you apologize to the families, shouldn't the President apologize.

Then, after they've softened her up and lowered her assertiveness, then they will attack on more substantive matters. Or dredge up totally inconsequential or unrelated stuff.

The objective will be to surprise her and get her off her game.

I think using Rice's appearance to trash Democrats would be a mistake.

If she's just trashing democrats then yes that would be a mistake. If she's simply supplying the truth at the prompting of those same democrats Then she looks great.

Remember that truth to a democrat is as sunlight to a vampire
