Statement from Kerry on OPEC's Decision Today

WASHINGTON, March 31 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry issued the following statement on today's decision by OPEC and Bush's continued failure to address America's record high gas prices:

"In 2000, Bill Richardson went to OPEC leaders and successfully worked with those countries to increase production and decrease the price of gas for American consumers. Today, George Bush was unable to achieve that same goal. Not only has George Bush let the gas prices spiral out of control, but he's squandered America's ability to do anything about it. After almost four years of this President's arrogant foreign policy, the United States has lost its credibility in the world. Diplomacy is not a word in George Bush's vocabulary, and as a result, the American people are paying high prices at the pump."

Seinfeld voted AGAINST oil drilling in Alaska. And now he's told the American people he's FOR our being dependent on Saudi and Venezuelan crude.

"In 2000, Bill Richardson went to OPEC leaders "

More to that story:

Republicans sponsor anti-trust bill against OPEC. Richarson against it.

Richardson accuses Republicans about "hysteria" over gas prices.

Weeks before the election OPEC announces output increases.

_____________________

Maybe early election season oil production cuts are an OPEC tradition. Bargaining with the party in power up to election day.

What did Clinton/Gore trade to OPEC for the output increase? Quashing the anti-trust bill? More?

What will Bush trade?

"In 2000, Bill Richardson went to OPEC leaders and successfully worked with those countries to increase production and decrease the price of gas for American consumers.

What a ration of s**t. Today Bill Richardson is working hard to increase America's dependence on foreign oil. In the past 60 days he has fired the director of the state oil and gas agency (who is nationally known for her contributions to protection of the environment from oil and gas operations) on the excuse that she was too friendly with industry. He has joined with national and local radical environmental groups to curtail expansion of drilling in NM's San Juan Basin, and prevent new plays on Otero Mesa in southern NM and in the Raton Basin from being fully explored let alone developed economically. He has joined with these groups to ensure the further increase the price of oil and gas in the future. And in the process of restricting oil and gas development he is denying the citizens of New Mexico the benefits in jobs, and income to the state's permanent fund which supports schools, thereby ensuring future increases in taxes on remaining commodities.

No, he'll surrender just for the hell of it, without even thinking of gaining any advantage for it. Because that would be immoral.

I guess Kerry would rather see the example of Jimmy Carter used for dealing with OPEC.
