In the first place, the Sunni Triangle is generally anti-American. According to the latest poll, only 30% of Iraqi Arabs view US troops favorably - compared to nearly 90% of Kurds - and it doesn't even take the Sunni-Shia disparity into account, so it's safe to say the majority of Sunni Arabs oppose our military presence. A significant minority of Sunnis - I'd say 25-30 percent - approve of anti-coalition attacks even if they don't participate in them. Level Fallujah and there's a pretty large pool of new insurgents for our enemies to draw from.

If, as I personally suspect, this whole thing was organized by foreign Islamists collaborating with foreign Arab media (how on earth were TV cameras so conveniently nearby when the attack took place?), their probable intent in such a highly-publicized atrocity was to provoke us into taking just the kind of action you propose. As far as they're concerned, their struggle's pretty dull without US troops causing collateral damage to Iraqi civilians in destroying them.

Fallujah's population is 250,000. I'd say at most 5% is involved in attacks in any fashion. The reason it's a particularly troublesome spot - even in comparison to other places in the Sunni triangle - is the population is particularly anti-American after last April's shooting incident.

The other groups, to show that we inflict no plague on others that we won't accept for ourselves, get airlifted to Berkeley and Harvard. The lucky campuses are then declared official sanddoggy refuges. Any Fallujah-ite caught off-campus gets shot on sight.

Good post. I have only one suggestion. Don't drop the filthy terrorists at Harvard or Berkley, since they would be on our precious American soil.

Ship those sympathizers from the two respective schools above to live with the terrorists in Fallujah. And then let the chips fall where they may.

or in an exercise of bipartisan outreach, Bush could ask Kerry to re-up some of those VietNam vets he so famously testified to the Congress about back in 71.

Track down the ones in the pictures and hang them from the bridge. No, it's not the easiest way, but it is sure as heck the best way to send the right message sharply targeted.

Never miss the opportunity for a really good joke at the enemy's expense, especially an enemy as deluded as this one.

After the smoke starts to clear the second plane should come along and drop the warning pamphlets.

This would send the message that we are normally the most civilized people on the planet. This time, though, we use the tools of civility to mock them. Write it all off to logistical errors and everything's covered.
