WASHINGTON - President Bush and his aides vowed yesterday that the U.S. mission to create a free and democratic Iraq would not be derailed by the savage slaying of four American security guards.

"America will never be intimidated by thugs and assassins," the president said at a fund-raising dinner in Washington. "We are aggressively striking the terrorists in Iraq. We will defeat them so we do not have to face them in our own country."

I agree. What's disturbing here is that the indiginous population actively supports the "terrorists". When your enemy is fighting a guerilla war and hiding among a cooperative population there is only one effective military response. It works but it isn't pretty.
