True enough. I would add two additional points:

1. Carter caved to the Ayatollahs big time. Don't forget, he refused to allow the US's long-time ally, the Shah, into the US for necessary medical treatment because he didn't want to inflame the world against us. Obviously, that worked out well.

2. During the Reagan, Bush I, Clinton and, to a lesser extent, Bush II administrations, Israel has been held back by the US administration from fighting against terror. Since Reagan made Sharon let Arafat leave Beirut in 1983, the message has been that Israel ("the tail of the snake" to Arab countries) can be attacked, while it cannot defend itself lest the Arab "street" become offended. More recently that has changed, as Israel has been permitted to reoccupy the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The fact that Arafat is alive in Ramallah today is, in my opinion, further appeasement by the US of Islamic terror.
