My question then is why not? Isn't running a business a job? If they included them, then the numbers should look even better. Kinda stupid if you ask me.

Let's see, you come up with numbers of self employed, employed and students (both employed and unemployed).

The BLS has these numbers right here, and all you have to do is check off what you want.  The site is down (or  v e r y slow) at the moment but when they come back a lot of us will be very interested.

I assume many moved from "self-employed" onto payrolls.

I've had my differences with "Free Traders" on this board in the past. However, even with all the articulated differences of opinion, the numbers released today are Tremendous.

I can only hope that this is an indication of rather pleasant news to come in the future. If these numbers are realistic and sustained over the next six months, the DEM's won't have a prayer come November.

Only thing I can imagine that would beat this news will be word of of a certain someone being captured or killed.

Then conversely if you are in school and work, then you should not be counted as being employed. I went to school full time and worked full time, are you saying that I should not be counted as employed? See my post 197 about how to come up with the numbers.

5.7 is higher than 5.6. The Rats will dance over this and ignore the rest. And guess what will be reported?

The unemployment numbers and the job creation numbers are determined in entirely different ways. I heard it explained on the Boortz talk show a few weeks ago. Briefly put, the unemployment rate is determined by calling a random group of households around the U.S. and asking if there are people in that household who are unemployed and actively seeking employment.

The job creation figure is determined by calling a pre-selected group of employers in all major fields of enterprise and asking for the number of new hires and/or unfilled openings within the past month. New businesses and entrepreneurial enterprises are NOT placed on the calling list until after at least 2 years of operation. Therefore, NONE of the new company's employees and individual entrepreneurs who have started up since mid-2002 are included in the March 2004 job creation number. Therefore, the unemployment figure says one thing while the job creation rate says another.

Those two different methods often give politicians the ability to cite a number showing the job picture is either good or bad depending on which figure is to their advantage. Gee, how convenient. No one ever said politicians aren't clever little critters. Disingenuous perhaps, but clever.

You've been miss reading what I wrote-- I've been saying "I've worked for mine - now you work for yours".  I'd be more than happy to admit I'm wrong of you announce that you do not want to raise my taxes so my money can make it so you and you your friends won't have to work as hard as I do.  

It's a serious problem, I've done pretty well as far as feeding my family goes, but there's simply not enough to go around to feed you guys too.

If you're out of work or if you're not being paid what you're worth, get off the freerepublic and start earning what you think you're worth.
