Small Military Training Plane Crashes on Takeoff in Georgia With Two People on Board
The Associated Press
SAVANNAH, Ga. April 3 A small military plane carrying two people crashed on takeoff Saturday morning and authorities refused to say if there were any survivors. The engine of the T-6A failed as it was taking off from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and the plane crashed on airport property, just west of the runway, said Maj. David Simons, spokesman for the 165th Airlift Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard.
The wing's training division is based at the airport.
The Air Force identifies the T-6A as a single-engine, turboprop trainer.
Simons refused to give any details on the conditions of the two people aboard.
A fire that broke out in the wreckage was extinguished by the military unit's own fire and rescue unit.
Pretty good little plane when they stay in the air.
