Incoming Spanish Prime Minister Zapaterio refuses to OK rotation of Spanish troops.

SPANISH troops scheduled to relieve those deployed in Iraq were held up at Zaragoza Airport on Monday due to a political challenge between the new government and the acting PP government. PM José María Aznar ordered the cancellation of the flight to Kuwait as incoming PM José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero would not issue a letter allowing the troops to be relieved.

Zapaterio suggested that instead of being relieved that the Spanish troops just be brought back home immediately.

I think Spain will soon realize that their momentary fit of cowardice is going to cause them a lot of unwanted pain down the road.
To: brydic1
now that is really the smart thing to do...react to the terrorists further by bringing the troops home stat....that will show the terrorists how serious Spain is..Zapatero needs to just turn the country over to Ayman Zawahari and all Spaniards need to leave; after all, it needs to go back to the Moors...

Well, the terrorists DID give them only 4 weeks to bring the troops home. So logistics being what they are, they'll just get in under the wire to meet the terrorists demands as it is, so no need to send more troops to Iraq to muck up the situation.
Gotta do what the terrorists demand, then go hide under their beds, dontcha know.

Aznar had been expected to win so Zapatero was a "sacrificial candidate". A Prime Minister in his early 40's is pushing the limit but this guy acts with the maturity of someone in his early 20's.

I meant to say Western Europe. Our friends in the former Soviet Bloc have better sense of what giving in to tyranny will get you.

They HAVE to bring their soldiers back to Spain so they can protect their own puckered fannies. Otherwise, they're just standing around waiting for the next explosion!
Oh wait... That already happened today.

The bigger question is, what should we do if the terrorist consider Spain a safe haven now? That's probably coming. After Spain withdraws from both Iraq and Afghanistan (latest demand), the terrorists will demand safe passage through Spain. If Spain tries to police them, then they blow something up.
The socialist government is pacifist and they were already trying to appease the Basque terrorists in Barcelona before the election.

Here is your inspection Clusseau scenario. The Spaniards have killed more Muslims than any other country in History. Cite the crusades. In the year 711 they invaded Spain. 500 years later they kicked out and chased them to Jerusalem and in the process killed most of them.
Histoty does not lie.

Spain has plenty of brave people. Unfortunately they are in the minority. The majority just voted socialist euroTrash into office. Pity the brave Spanish soldiers, willing to put their lives on the line, while their new leaders put on panty-hose and prance around like French girlie-boys.
And it's what we're facing in America, if our own girlie-boy Kerry gets elected.
To: HarryCaul
"suffering the leadership of a man selected without thought"
HC gets it! Spain has been branded a cowardly state, deserving only our derision due to the socialist victory. In fact, it was a small percent (5-6%) who were swayed by the street demonstrations put on by the PSOE rabble - illegally, the night before elections - that put Zapatero in office.
Zapatero has gained tenuous control over a state left if good economic health, and widely respected by the free nations of the world. Lets see how long it takes for him to loot the treasury and lose the confidence of both those who voted him in and the world body politic.
My wife was there the month of March, and told me of overhearing three mid 20's females discussing their second thoughts while on a train trip. Seems they all got carried away with the street demonstrations and cast a shortsighted vote for PSOE. None apparently expected they would actually get what they voted for! It was just a protest in the heat of the moment. I am sure there are many who wish they could get a "do over".

I'm willing to believe that. And I thought that might be true even before I read your post. My comments about Commie Coward EuroTrash aren't particularly directed towards the Spanish people. There are Commie Coward EuroTrash in every country, including the USA. If Kerry gets elected, we will have a Commie Coward EuroTrash in the Whitehouse.
The fact remains, that though not all Spanish people are Commie Coward EuroTrash, a significant number of them were duped into voting for a Commie Coward EuroTrash leader. Which is what they have. For what? Six more years?
Pity the brave non-commie, non-cowardly, pro-freedom Spanish people who either a) were smart enough to vote correctly in the first place, or b) are now sorry they were duped into losing their head and voting Commmie Coward EuroTrash in the heat of the moment.

Spain was swayed because of the Iraq issue. That is happening here as we speak.
When Bush decides to clean this up once and for all we all win.
Let the soldiers be soldiers, they are the best in this planet, let them do what they are trained for or they (the Muslims)will come here and take our freedom.

If things get bad in Spain economically, or(as I expect will happen) because of blatant curruption and inept governing by the PSOE, the Zapatero government will have difficulties in short order. Aznar put the PSOE on notice shortly after the election, telling the nation that the PSOE was inheriting a national treasury in excellent condition. In other words, if economic problems arise, PSOE is the cause!
Iberian; by "do over" I meant re-think and re-vote. If everyone in Spain with second thoughts got a do over, PSOE would still be the minority opposition party, whining the way the dems do here. Unfortunately, I fear the do over will be 4 years down the road.

I think Spain will respond a lot faster than you think. The pulse of the people are not in the mood to deal with the freaking Muslims or a socialist government.
Spaniards Hate the Muslims, and Zapatero got in on a change created by them.
Spain is in no mood to deal with these bastards right now. The ETA hates those SOB's as well because they are creating a negative undercurrent to the terrorist theme in Spain.
ETA is a Hatfield and McCoy's internal issue. This is a fight among ts themselves

Spain was swayed because of the Iraq issueSpain was stunned and overwhelmed by the terrorist bombing. The election was tipped by the behavior of the PSOE rabble, in the streets by the thousands throughout Spain, calling Aznar a criminal and liar (and worse), right up to election day.
Dont forget, the bombing happened on Wednesday, and the election was held the following Sunday. The Iraq issue was NOT the primary reason for the PP loss. Inflamed Spanish passions due to the PSOE tactics are what caused the upset. Most Spaniards with regrets today would not have voted PSOE had there been a cooling off period between the bombing and the election.

So what you are saying here is that while an early election is possible, it is unlikely and that the new PM is going to keep his job for the next 4 years. Is that right?
