A .22--that is why my husband told me if i ever shoot my Beretta, empty the clip or I will just sting them and make them mad.
But I like the Beretta because it is just right for my hand and not too heavy--so I'll just keep an extra clip on hand--but NOT under my pillow.

True story (abbreviated because I've told it before):

Guy at my husband's job got shot in the head with a .22 short by his common law wife. Bullet simply lodged under the skin between his eyes. My husband is the first aid officer, he took one look and sent him on to the industrial clinic. He was back in an hour or two with a band-aid over the wound.

He went home that night and threw the lady out on the street. About six months later she got in a tiff with her new gentleman-friend. Only this time she used a kitchen knife and killed him stone cold dead.

The guy's only comment was, "She was a d##n mean woman, but she sure could cook."

Moral: Don't bring a .22 to a knife fight.

Then, it ransacked his wallet, took his car keys and headed south for Lodi, where it used his credit cards to buy a Harley and start a gang.

An SUV was the mastermind of this operation.

Isn't that a blues song?

It should be...

Holy crap!! If .22 caliber is so weak, then why do the liberally biased media always have stories about people getting killed by a .22 caliber pistol? Why are there even .22LR rifles?

He certainly is a sound sleeper.

I was thinking the same thing. Even if he had a .44 under his pillow, he'd probably sleep thru the need to use it.

OT - my father-in-law slept thru his roof getting blown off during a tornado. He woke up staring at the sky.

You have to be really unlucky to get killed by a .22, usually by severing a major blood vessel or penetrating a vital part of the brain.

That said, .22 short is even more anemic than .22 LR, it's hardly better than the old 'CB caps' that were used in the midway shooting galleries. In a rifle the bullet will develop more velocity and hence more impact energy.

But it's still nothing to write home about. As my dad says, "I hate like h##l to shoot a man and then stand there and argue with him."

Of course, my dad is the man who shot an escaping prisoner in the head with a .45 and did him no lasting harm. The guy had a really hard skull and was at extreme range when dad shot at his feet and hit him in the back of the head. Knocked him down and knocked him out but otherwise didn't hurt him. The bullet travelled around the top of his skull and lodged just at the hairline on his forehead. A few weeks later the AG showed up to investigate whether dad had violated the fellow's civil rights by shooting him (he hadn't. The guy was an American GI in the stockade accused of rape of an Italian civilian.)

You're lucky. At that time we had our first newfie (Newfoundland--same type as won the Westmister this year) and she was blissfully on her back, all four in the air, snoring and running. She stayed there until two things happened. First, the cops showed up (alarm signal) and with them came the K9 "MOMMY THERE'S A BOY OUTSIDE!!!" And to her credit, second, once she realized that mommy was indeed really SCARED of something, she raced to her side and wouldn't leave her for a moment. 145 pounds of fur covered razor blade is a force when it wants to be. She has since passed and now we have our second newfie and this girl is much more ALERT and VOCAL.

"I'd laugh if a guy pointed a weak-ass .22 or .38 Special pistol at me."

I would't be laughing at all.
Even having a .22 pointed at you is a seriesTM threat.
You can only hope it's REALLY far away, or REALLY close.
