The letter to Hefley states: "We are seriously concerned about the inflammatory language and tone of (the CBC's) accusations. By misinterpreting the truth about what happened in the last few hours before (former Haitian president) Aristide left office, these lawmakers are inciting hatred, suspicion and possibly violence towards the White House, State Department officials and the new administration in Haiti."
...You go, Rev. Patterson!

Shouldn't the complaint specify what the point of the investigation should be?

Maxine Waters is the biggest just-plain b$%##&%$# in the Congress, I think. Her face (not to mention her diatribes) shows it - always frowning angrily, her eyes full of hatred. I cannot stand the woman; she is always the 1 making the greatest quantity and quality of asinine statements.

the United States sent nearly $1 billion in aid to Haiti, yet it is still the poorest country in the Western HemisphereIs any of this "missing" billion dollars influencing our Congressfolk? And what about the proceeds of Aristide's monopoly of the drug trade?
I'll bet if the evidence were found, some of the CBC belong in jail over this.

I'll take meglomaniacal ethnocentric congresscritters for $1000, Alex.
Sorry, Waters is close, but it's official- Corrine Brown is a bigger Jacka$$ than Marxine...
During a private Congressional briefing on Haiti, Congresswoman Corrine Brown (D-Fla.), derided a member of the Bush administration and two of her fellow members of Congress as "a bunch of white men." When it was pointed out to Brown that two of the three "white men" were, in fact, Hispanic (e.g., one is named Henry Bonilla and the other Roger Francisco Noriega), she refused to apologize and said "you all look alike to me."
This is not the first time Rep. Brown has made bizarre remarks. In a recent press release, she says the following of the folks who have taken to the streets against Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Haiti's deranged President:
"The groups that call themselves 'the opposition,' are in reality nothing more than armed gangs often funded by drug lords, that are attempting to steal power through undemocratic means. These are not legitimate political opposition groups, many of them are the SAME criminals that were in power before Aristide. These thugs are made up of ex military, ex death squad members, drug and gang members, and members of the wealthy business elite that do not like the idea of a government that does not cave to their every wish. They do not like the idea of a government that is trying to redistribute money to the poor and provide Haitians with proper education and health care, because they feel threatened that their previous absolute hold on power will dissolve. And since they can't defeat Aristide in a fair election, they are trying to make the political conditions in the country so chaotic that they will be carried to power through an eventual coup."
Funny, most rational observers recognize that Aristide is nuts, that he is a power freak who will do whatever he can to stay in office, and is a fool who bungled the effort to stabilize Haiti in the 1990s (see, for example, the article in the March 13, 2003 copy of the left-leaning New York Review of Books by Peter Dailey, "Haiti: The Fall of the House of Aristide"). This is why Colin Powell has begun pressuring Aristide to step aside. here
Of course, considering Rep. Brown is so dumb that she can't discern a White from a Hispanic, we suppose that she can't be expected to understand foreign policy. Good job Florida- you've elected yet another Jackass.
