Lawsuit filed over 'I Voted' sticker

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) -- A Stamford man says election day has left its mark on him and he is not happy about it.

Robert Bonoff wants the city to pay for a new suede coat that he said has been ruined by a voting sticker.

Bonoff says the "I voted today" sticker he was handed and asked to wear after voting in the March 2 presidential primary ruined his suede coat.

Bonoff said he showed the coat to a dry cleaner who said the sticker's mark cannot be removed. He has filed a claim with the city seeking $106, the purchase price of the coat, including sales tax.

When the damage was brought to her attention, Democratic Registrar of Voters Alice Fortunato said she told Bonoff to get the coat cleaned and bill the city. When that didn't work, she forwarded his case to the city attorney.

"I'm very sorry that he feels that the sticker ruined his coat," she said. "But there's not much this office can do in that regard."

Stamford Director of Legal Affairs Tom Cassone said Bonoff will not be compensated. The city is not liable for damage caused by stickers handed out at the polls, city-sponsored blood drives or other events, he said.

Did they force him to stick it on his coat at gunpoint? That's terrible! </sarcasm>

Hmm, maybe I can sue Kroger and every other grocery store for all the clothes I've ruined over the years via food stains...

Note to self:

Don't attach bumper stickers to good clothes
Don't spray perfume samples on good clothes
Don't wipe Costco food samples on good clothes
Don't test paint thinner on good clothes
Don't put cigar or cigaretts out, using good clothes

So much to remember..... < /sarcasm>

If I ran the city, I'd offer to settle with him ... provided that he promised never to vote again. Oh, and I'd give him an "I'm stupid" sticker to wear, too.

I damaged a nice leather (shiny) jacket with a sticker handed to me at a post election party a few years back. Fortunetely, a little shoe polish restored the ring it left behind, although it needs a little added restoration , if you know where to look.

In the midst of the 2000 Democratic Party vote fraud debacle in FLA, I put up my "I voted" sticker with the word "really" carotted in so as to read "I really voted" [as opposed to a dead person voting, or a bum voting under multiple fake IDs], up on a wall at my Leftist infested workplace. I don't know how many of those Rats got the joke....

No that wouldn't work either. The heat generated each time his brain is over taxed due to daily thinking would ruin the glue, then he would sue because the sticker doesn't stick.

Someone should take this opportunity to inform Mr. Bonoff not to use a hair dryer in the bathtub. In fact, there's a whole great long list of no-no items he needs to learn about.

Don't stare directly at the sun.
Don't stare directly into a laser light source.
Don't pull on Superman's cape.
etc.

You neglected to tell me not to wear good clothes while working on my car.

I'm going to sue you over my ruined suit.
