I hope this isn't considered a vanity. If so, I'm sorry.

I'm afraid to post for fear of a USSS subpoena against me for posting . . .

The answer, FRiend, is simple.
There are still too many USSS agents loyal to HRC. They're only going through the motions of protecting #43, because they all hope that She Who Must Not Be Named will return to power as #44.

A similar thing happened to me a few years ago when I made an uncomplimentary remark about the IRS in a Usenet post. Apparently the IRS has its own police force that handles public remarks made about it in the way that the Secret Service handles actual threats against the president.
To: Old Sarge
Loyal to HRC? After throwing lamps at them and treating them like crap? I would think they would be thrilled to be working for GWB.

Remarkable story. Are you sure you're not talking
about the FBI?

I think that there are Marines in Iraq right now who would laugh at your fear.

The "tongue-in-cheekiness" of your remark is hilarious!!!
To: MAWG
You know, MAWG, that was uncalled for. Nothing I have said has in any way indicated that I would even BEGIN to equate what I went through with the type of real and deadly battle those patriots go through every day. I just want to make that clear.
To: RightFighter
This is a vanity, but it is one that is worthwhile enough to be worth posting.
That said, I think the USSS handling of the case is outrageous. I would contact them and ask about their complaint filing system and follow it. I would also contact my congressman and both Senators. I would also write to the President's office directly...he needs to know his security is not what it should be.
You did everything right. They screwed up by the numbers...including not investigating a viable threat on the President's life. Their actions clearly deter citizens from doing the right thing in the future...making their job harder. The subpoena delay was idiotic given that you called them and left your number.
It is this type of bureaucratic idiocy that allowed 9/11 to happen. It needs to be eradicated not only with regards to terrorism, but also with regards to our President's security.
If it receives no attention from any of the quarters mentioned, I would call a local reporter. It would make an interesting local interest story.

The Praetorian Guard is only too happy to serve, even as ash tray targets.
She Who Must Not Be Named had eight years to staff the ranks, and you can't convince me there wasn't a party loyalty litmus test for hiring.
To: RightFighter
You got screwed. Your boss is wrong, they should have protected your identity. They had no way of knowing that the guy who said something about Pres. Bush would not attack you or others. I'm sure they meant no harm, but you know how big organizations are....

"What have YOU learned?!"
Seriously...take care of "business" in private as much as possible! Avoid the Washington Intellegentsia at ALL costs, because as you have learned, the spatter will hit YOU worse than any perp!
Remember, the guilty/accused have MORE rights than the innocent/accuser...remember Linda Tripp!

Last Fall, I received an email from an irate, left-wing wacko - have it on the home machine, or I'd post it with some redaction - berating me and threatening to kill President Bush. I emailed the FBI in Philly and Pittsburgh immediately, with a copy of the death threat note.
Within 6hrs, a Secret Service Agent - can't remember the field office location - called and asked me to expand the header in netscape v4.79 (now using v7.1 so he could trace the path.
He thanked me for my concern and promised he'd take it from there.
I printed out the email with the expanded header, and attached a copy of it in a *.doc file, and emailed it to him.
Haven't heard diddly-squat, since. Don't expect to. Hope they nailed the scumbag real good.
If this thread is still around in the morning, I'll bring a copy of it into the office on a Zip disk, and post it here.

The reason that it had taken so long for him to contact me was that the USSS had to SUBPOENA Free Republic for my records so that they could track me down by IP address through my ISP.
Now, I was not at all surprised that they were able to track me down this way. To the contrary, I would be surprised if they couldnt. What I was surprised about was that they felt like they HAD to track me down in this way, considering that I had made a PHONE CALL TO THE USSS to report the guy!
So, if he knew nothing of your call, how did his investigation start? Did someone else read the thread and call in their concerns or do agents peruse the political sites?

That is the Federal Government for you. The joke in Washington DC is that if two people know about it, then it is not a secret. I do not think there is much you can do about this. I think you did the right thing, but you may have been burnt in the process. Doing the right thing does not always work to your advantage. I would still do what you did in a heartbeat. Its called having morals, and that should apply to anyone not just politicians.
To: RightFighter
1. How did they get a picture of you?
2. You could write to you congressperson or contact the press (perhaps a columnist), but it seems unlikely that you will be able to remain anonymous. Unless this turns into even more of a bureaucratic nightmare, maybe the ensuing problems for you will not be worth it.
I didn't read the original post, but it sounds like you did the right thing. Your experience will probably frighten others away from following your example.
