[history]
A Priest Lake man killed his neighbor's 2-pound miniature Yorkshire terrier by kicking it into the air like a football, police said, and authorities have charged him with animal cruelty.
Jelani Lewis and Jessica McKenzie say they are outraged at the death of their 17-year-old pet, Gizmo. Lewis said he watched helplessly early yesterday as three men assaulted the dog the way football players kick field goals.

Jessica McKenzie, left, with her boyfriend, Jelani Lewis, indicates the blood from their dog, Gizmo, which Lewis said was killed by three men who held it down and kicked it like a football. The spot is where Gizmo landed, more than 30 feet from where the 2-pound terrier was kicked.

First, anybody who does that to such a helpless creature is beneath contempt. I am glad that I didn't witness it, because I'd be dead or in jail tonight.
Second, 'Support Free Republic', if that really *is* your name, the Bengal-Bunny is the coolest misuse of Photoshop I've seen in a long time.

This sort of cruelty stuns me. It is a good thing this did not happen to my family's dog (a Shih Tzu). If it had, I would probably be in jail right now for opening fire on those sub-human pieces of filth.

Arrgghh.....I hate to admit it, but the perp. has my family name. Believe me, there are no Crawfords in MY family who behave like that.
Although, I have at times referred to little tiny dogs as "drop kick doggies," but only in jest. This is disgusting.

In the photos in post #1, I see one intelligent and loving creature, Gizmo, and one uncivilized and hateful beast, Crawford.

I punted a possum one time.
For real.
It went a good 15 yards or so.
It was sort of an accident, kind of.

1. I'm not a particularly violent man, but the person who kills my dog is going to meet the business end of a baseball bat.
2. Why was the dog running loose? The owner didn't know that his dog was outside, and didn't know that the dog was in the parking lot with these men? My dogs are rarely off of their leashes outside of the yard, and I know where they are at all times. Besides the chance that they could be hurt or hit by a car, the liability that would incur if they bit someone (justified or not) is too much of a risk to take.
A little 'owner responsibility' might have prevented this.

I think that a plea bargain is in order here. Here's my plan...
Mr. Crawford is tied to stakes in the ground with his legs spread. Mr. Lewis, then gets to play a little football of his own. I'm not talking about American football; I mean soccer. Mr. Lewis is entitled to at least one penalty kick. Since Crawford's obviously so enamored with sports, I'm sure that he'll appreciate this deal!

''There is an obvious question about the mental makeup of someone who would do a thing like this to a tiny animal,'' There is no question in my mind at all. It is clear what the mental makeup of such an animal is and it is even clearer what needs to be done to this POS.

Yorkies are closer to vicious little hamsters. They are very territorial and they are fearless. To the uninformed that can be construed as vicious.

We just got a little yorkie. She's three months old as of yesterday and I garontee ya, if some "animal" did something like that to Chu-h-ga, he wouldn't have to post bail. His family would be getting funeral arrrangements together. Hubby has become sort of attached to this ball of fur. BTW, her name means Flea in the Cherokee language.

If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be leery of these nuts, especially the ring leader. Anyone who could treat a poor defenseless dog like this would probably have no problem doing much the same to humans.
Mr. Lewis showed great restraint by not beating the holy crap out of the loser who did this.

You can avoid that next time by not suggesting something idiotic like a group of men HOLDING DOWN A small dog and then kicking it ....is somehow justified

I also hope you are joking with your comment, if not, I feel sorry for you because of your way of thinking... Two pound dog, couldn't even defend it's self. My dog does bite, that's why I have my 11 lb. Schnauzer! Beware of attacking Schnauzers!

Why is the guy who held the dog not being charged also? He is just as guilty and depraved.
To: Robert_Paulson2
I suggested that the story is NOT always true when an owner defends their pet. let the back-peddling begin
To: Robert_Paulson2
I have no doubt there is more to this story than the OWNER'S "my dog was an angel" routine. More than "three thugs hold down a two pound dog and kick it to death"?
"Yea, your honor, the little mutt was askin' fer it."

After Gizmo's death, Lewis said, he chased the three men until he caught Crawford, and made him pick up Gizmo's body and take it upstairs to McKenzie. He later held Crawford until police showed up. I find the above version a tad difficult to believe.
One average sized, average looking guy chases down three guys? Well, I know the adrenalin would have been flowing, but still.

Sorry to see you so grumpy, Robert: none of your comments are relevant to the post; the only commonality is the word "dog" in both.
And if they attack a human... off leash, they should be put down and the owner held accountable for assault.
I agree with you: children nowadays just don't know how to behave. They attack humand without a provocation.
