I have to agree. Shooting someone for stealing a car is just stupid. It's just a darned car...not worth anyone's life. The life you save may be your neighbors by shooting the scumbag.

Nah, I don't think so. Car theft is in no way a capital offence. Not in any jurisdiction.
Shooting someone for stealing a car will get you a felony conviction. Is your car worth that much to you?
