Do you really believe that people voted a socialist government in in Spain to appease terrorists? The simple fact is that the majority of people in Spain were against the war in Iraq before the bombings and after. The crucial fact in the election in Spain was the appaling arrogance of a government willing to lie to its people. For a view from Spain check out the editorial in http://www.threemonkeysonline.com

Believe it or not, it is possible to be against terrorism and to be opposed to the war in Iraq.

There are many editorials written about the perspective of the small percentage of Spanish voters who changed their support from the People's Alliance to the Socialist Party. And some of those editorials might be right, "All politics is local," to quote former Speaker Tip O'Neill.

Unfortunately, the bottom line is how the Spanish election results were perceived abroad, especially among terrorist supporters.

For al-Qaida types, their terrorist attack produced the desired results, and they are emboldened now.

And for most Americans, the Spanish vote was a capitulation to terrorism.

And to cast a vote in a vain hope to blunt the Islamic reconquista of Spain.

Wherever Churchill is, he's probably shaking his head as the Spaniards now get
a good look inside the jaws of the alligator they thought they fed with their ballots.

Believe it or not Tippy , It is apparently possible to be against poverty and be opposed to work. In fact it is even trendy. Good luck.

Your position is flawed.

The conservative, pro Iraq war government was ahead in the pols just prior to the bombing.

I believe, as you have proven, Tibbo, that it is possible to post to Free Republic and still be a flaming Socialist moron.

Let me guess, you would treat terrorism as a simple criminal problem.

The simple fact is that the majority of people in Spain were against the war in Iraq before the bombings and after.

It didn't matter to the terrorists. Then they elected a socialist government to appease them. Yet the terrorists still want to attack them. NOT attacking Iraq didn't matter to the terrorists. Pulling our troops out of Saudi Arabia and closing Prince Sultan Airbase didn't matter to the terrorists.

A free Iraq would benefit the US profoundly, both in the immediate and long term for the entire middle-east. Islamic terrorism will not stop until there is a fundmental change this region. The Iraq war is the first step in that direction. Don't fight the symptom, fight the cause. (And no, poverty doesn't cause terrorism. If that were true then christian palastinians would be suicide bombers too.)

So if you oppose the war in Iraq, then what would you like to see happen?
