Clinton Denies Taped Bin Laden Admission, Blames 'Misquote'

During his private interview with the 9/11 Commission on Thursday, ex-President Bill Clinton denied that he told a New York business group in 2002 that he turned down an offer from Sudan for Osama bin Laden's extradition to the U.S., according to 9/11 Commissioner Bob Kerrey.
"Bill Clinton said yesterday that, that was a misquote," Kerrey told WDAY Fargo, North Dakota radio host Scott Hennen, in an interview set for broadcast on Monday.
A transcript of the exchange between Hennen and Kerrey was read on the air by national radio host Sean Hannity late Friday. It shows that the 9/11 Commission was unaware that Clinton's bombshell admission that he spurned the bin Laden offer had been recorded by NewsMax.
After Kerrey said Clinton had denied the quote, Hennen said, "But wait a minute - I heard it in his own voice. I've heard him say it. I have the tape of him saying just that."
"Really?" said a perplexed Kerrey. "Well, then - ship it to me, because Clinton said yesterday [in private 9/11 testimony] that he didn't have a recollection of that."
Clinton made the bombshell admission to the Long Island Association on Feb. 15, 2002. Though the LIA videotaped his appearance, the group has refused requests for copies from NBC News, Fox News and NewsMax.
Though NewsMax has the only publicly available recording of Clinton's remarks that day, they were also reported by Newsday the next day.
Transcript of Clinton's admission:
We'd been hearing that the Sudanese wanted America to start dealing with them again.
They released him. At the time, 1996, he had committed no crime against America so I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him, though we knew he wanted to commit crimes against America.
So I pleaded with the Saudis to take him, 'cause they could have. But they thought it was a hot potato and they didn't and that's how he wound up in Afghanistan. [End of Excerpt]

Sudan, an ally of al-Qaeda was gong to give up Bin Laden? More like those in Sudan were trying to jaw bone us. Liek the Taliban were after 9/11.
I mean Sudan is a death zone for Christians - why would we trust them to hand over Osama?

Despite Kerrey's partisan hack job recently I suspect he has no love for Clinton. I still say it was only after the Clintons threatened to go public with his war crimes that he decided to break it himself. Maybe it will go somewhere but I get the feeling that if Clinton sat up and said he personally financed 9-11 and after meeting with Bin Laden and receiving campaign funds supplied private jets for the hijackers to come to the country after selling his shares of American Airlines you wouldn't hear a thing about it on the network news. Instead it would be about who leaked the info.

Isn't Kerrey the one who called Clinton, "an unusually good liar"?
I suppose Clinton's testimony isn't so private any more in Kerrey's mind, huh? At least not the stuff that, out of context, would tend to exonerate Clinton . . . assuming you believed anything Clinton said.

Sweep what under the rug? All I said I find it a stretch that Sudan, an ally of Al-Qaeda and a killer of millions of Christians would turn over their pal Bin Laden. I think if there was negotiations it was a delaying tactic to get Osama out of Sudan. Uncle Sam the idiot was suckered.
Sudan was never ever going to hand anyone to Washington especially Osama. The problem was that we were negotiating with Sudan - a sign of cupidity and stupidity - when we should have sent in a kill team.
The scandal is that we negotiated and actually thought Sudan would hand OBL over not that Clinton failed to get Sudan to hand him over. You people actually think those negotiations were legit? Would have paid off?

Okay, so this guy wouldn't know the truth if it had its lips locked around his... well, that's beside the point.
I've heard this "damning" charge thrown about and it has always made me wonder - what would we have done with OBL in '96? It has always been my understanding that we hadn't even linked him to '93 WTC at that point.
Not disputing billyjeff's taped statement, but can someone tell me what other options we had?

I am convinced that the RATS have a win-win strategy in terms of clinton and 9/11.
Their strategy is to throw bits and pieces of mud at clinton while dumping truckloads on GWB. Either the pieces stick to clinton or they don't.
If they stick, so what, as clinton ain't running for anything.
If they don't stick, so much the better.
The main thing is to tar Bush, and appear "bipartisan" in so doing. The strategy is as transparent as it is cynical and typical. And of course the media is more than willing to play along.
To: VeniVidiVici

Sudan was suckering us so Osama could escape to Afghanistan. I find it shocking that Clintonistas were stupid enough to think negotiations with Sudan would produce Osama and I find it shocking some Freepers think so too. I repeat negotiations with a jihadist regime in Sudan is the real scandal!
Too complex a concept?

Hey Carl, I hear that City Fathers facilitated the US forces retaking of Kut by throwing Sadr's forces out of certain strong points -- they were fed up. Some groups spokesman on the O'Reily radio show is claiming that. No news service has that anywhere yet -- might want to check it out.
Might be a contagious trend if publicized.
