"Once the Marines started kicking in Fallujah's front door, many people switched their vote to B. Instead of people thinking us weak and afraid, they began to think that we were going to butcher the entire city. Given that these people have lived under Saddam their entire lives, it's not an irrational assumption."

One journalist who said that civilians streaming out of the city of fallujah did not seem to be hostile towards the US military, just afraid for their safety.Wouldnt you be in the same situation?
The US soldiers gave them food and water and they were in packed cars headed for baghdad.

And what these guys in media don't understand, terrorist are using same strategy that Vietcom where using with our media. Media portrays America as weak, and terrorist feed on it without knowing, Americans love to fight, and time have change. And this time, table is turn, and we are not to take the crop from them!!!

If terrorist thing they are going to win this, then they are like media, bunch of dead people walking. Media people once again will have egg on their face soon.

For all of you guys, some good spirit bump.

"They want to see U.S. forces pull out to something like five km (three miles) outside the city. No cease-fire can take place while the U.S. forces keep pounding Falluja," Qahtan al-Rubaie, a spokesman for the Iraqi Islamic Party, told Reuters.

As the Russians say "Tuffski Sh*tski"! If they want the Marines to stop pounding their a$$es, they should just stop pointing weapons their way!

This is beginning to take on a "November 1950" sort of feel.

Time to move some tanks to the Iranian border and suggest that the rebellion end.

Our troops are winning on the ground, of that I have no doubt. However, our leaders are displaying a lack of will to finish the job. We are in danger of letting the IGC ditate military policy. This ceasefire was their idea, now that they have it the militia demands are being put into play. Now, if we don't meet their demands or the IGC which is already on record of wanting the Fulluja operation to cease will be against us too. And getting lot's of coverage on TV and in the press. I posted days ago the the IGC should be ignored and the operation put into high gear. I was right.

you cannot negotiate with these animals. If you did, could you trust them? I don't think so. So what to do? My only answer is kill them.

I've been trying, without success,to find a screen cap from The Fifth Element where Bruce Willis's character is sent in to 'negotiate' with a hostile group of aliens. He walks in, shoots the leader, then asks "Anyone else want to negotiate?" It's priceless!!

Does anyone see the irony in this statement? We can't have a cease fire, until WE stop firing?

We should know by now that a call for a cease-fire from Islamonazis means that our war strategy is being effective.

The only ceasefire worth anything to us is the enemy's unconditional surrender.

Let's see. We pull back, they retake ground. And what is accomplished?

There is a very practical reasons for a temporary ceasefire.

News reports state that the U.S. military asked civilians on Friday morning to evacuate the city. They are being allowed to leave only on foot and must leave their vehicles and anything they cannot carry behind.

A lull in the fighting allows the civilians, who now know that the U.S. is using everything from tanks, to JDAM's to AC 130's in Fallujah, to get out of Dodge.

An urban battlefield devoid of civilians will then allow the U.S. to fully maximize it's strengths in air power, armor and artillery instead of having to engage in house to house infantry firefights in order to minimize civilian casualties.

War is a chess game and you have to think several moves ahead instead of taking every gambit at face value.

The Baathist die-hard leadership and their foot soldiers are a cancer within Iraq. They don't want "freedom". They want to resume their previous positions of power over the rest of Iraq and that will never change. The cancer cells must die if the body of Free Iraq is to live. Therefore, when these "negotiations" fail miserably, as they ceratainly will, the U.S. military can resume killing the Baathists in a Fallujah emptied of civilians.

As General Powell said of the Iraqi Army before the start of Desert Storm: "First we are going to isolate it. Then we are going to kill it".

The Baathists and foreign fighters are concetrated in Fallujah. We are going to isolate them. Then we are going to kill them.

If I am not mistaken there is a ceasefire at this very momnet and the IGC is talking to the Iraqis militia which is demanding a withdraw of US forces from the city.

Looks like we're still clouded by the fog of war... last I heard, we were talking about a truce, while consolidating our position, but had not actually implemented a ceasefire.

The Iraqi Governing Council should be negotiating with the full faith and knowledge that the United States military is standing with him and his country.

The rebels should be negotiating realizing that this is the best chance for martyrdom that they will ever get.

Same to you dear Mayor, same to you.

I wish I could light up a candle for many to let them know what is going on in Iraq. Media is on a spin again. But is better that way. We do not want to give our enemies to much info. Let them be in guessing mood. Our guys are ready to load, aim and shoot. Everyone should be proud of them. God Bless America and coalition forces.

Once everything is over our guys will be coming back home in parade of a century.

God bless

The next few days will be crucial for the future of Iraq, the willingness of the Iraqi people to back the US, and the future of terrorism in the US.

If we back down, negotiate some sort of cease fire and allow the militia to withdraw or continue in Fallujah and other Iraqi cities, we will have shown that we cannot go the way when the going gets tough. No wonder, the average Iraqi won't stick his.her neck out. We might not be there when they need us. Look at 1991 when we did not help the Shia in their southern uprising and allowed Saddam to slaughter them.

If we don't finish the destruction of the enemy militia, we invite attacks on US soil as well as those allies who have stood with us.

Finally, Bush's own standing in the US and his reelection chances will be greatly affected, maybe determined, by what he does in this crisis. We are committing the same mistakes we made in Vietnam. We have rules of engagement that force us to fight on the enemy's terms and prevent us from using our overwhelming technology and air power effectively. We are also sliding toward creating a type of safe haven for the terrorists. If they mingle and work from within large crowds, pilgrims, etc and we won't kill them anyway, they know how to protect themselves. Religious ceremonies and gatherings are very frequent in Islamic countries. If we stop every time, we will never win. (Rant off)
