If the Bremer's bureaucrats agree to this they should be fired. The Marines will not accede to this, but pencil necked politicians may.
To: Eurotwit
Let's see. We pull back, they retake ground. And what is accomplished?

But on the ground, US Lieutenant Colonel Brennan Byrne said he had no orders regarding a ceasefire. "I'll continue to fight until I'm instructed to do different," he said. see link

If the Bremer's bureaucrats agree to this they should be fired. I would think the Marines would object; they spilled blood for that turf. Bremer is not going to agree...

If we do this, the terrorists will regard this as weakness. Best policy...kill them all.
To: Eurotwit
Say that the US Marines were to be ordered to draw back. The retreat would be regarded as just another target of opportunity by the virtuous Sunnis, who would believe themselves fully justified to shoot the Marines in the back.
Not a win-win situation. However, if they stop shooting, we solemnly promise that we will reload in the interim. And keep in mind the minimum pressure needed to squeeze off a round.
To: Eurotwit
Perhaps the terrorist are smarter than first reported. If we pull back they gain everything, we gain nothing. Tell me what is the average IQ of our generals/civil leaders vs the IQ of the terrorist. Just for the record.

All these people respect is power.
Lets continue to show it to them. They must know that we are the conquering army and they must comply, or die.

Emilio Aguinaldo y Famy tried pretty much the same trick. In the end he pledged allegiance to the US. All we are asking here is that they behave themselves and pledge allegiance to Iraq come June 30, 2004.
Guess Iraqi "warriors" aren't up historic standards.

This is one of the most colossal bluffs I have seen in recent history. A group of rebels, trapped and surrounded, dictates the terms under which they will stop fighting.
Yeah, that'll work!
Rebels, let me introduce you to MOAB . . . oh, and there's only 1 72 year-old virgin for the lot of you if you die of stupidity.

Idiots. The US doen't need a cease fire. We could continue till we run out of Iraqis to shoot.

That would be negotiating with terrorists.
We cannot negotiate with terrorists.
Vaporize 'em.

Good news.
Bad guys negotiating to save their stinking skins.
Good guys negotiating and tightening their steel grip at the same time.

They shouldn't be the ones setting the terms. We should be the ones issuing the ultimatums. I hope such demands are quickly rejected. Comply with our demands or suffer the consequences.

The Marine commanders will object vigorously. But, in the end, they will obey orders from above. This is exactly the sort of stuff that has been going on since WW II. The politicians worry more about polling numbers and the next 24 hour news cycle than American lives or strategic and tactical advantage. We will see what this administration is made of in the next few days. We will also see if this administration really understands the mindset of islamic fanatics. This proposed pullback is simply a ploy to rest and rearm for the Fallujah vermin, nothing else. They are hurt and disorganized and seek a respite.
