Indeed I did! And I plan to again.. for quite a while.
Somehow, a lot of the payload winds up in Eaker's freezer....
Awesome!!!
Me too...I bagged a nice 4x4 muley last year that is being shoulder mounted, unfortunately I won't see it until July...but the freezer is full :O)
Even from a construction run we try not to come home empty-handed!
humblegunner has a 9 so that he can steal ammo off the benches at the range!!!!
;<)
take care,
Jim
A semi-auto with pistolgrip can be good.
I like a straight stock double barrel 12 ga. and at legal length you can get in some fun practice that will really improve your speed by using it for quail.
One handed it's like hunting quail with a pistol and when you can bust a couple of birds on the wing when you jump up a covey, you know you'll easily be on target for bigger, slower prey.
With a pistol in your gunhand and the shorty in the offhand, practice killing cans. You can get really good at it.
In some situations, just the sight of you can have a very calming effect on anti-social types, saves ammo. ;)
Hardware on top of the stock can do terrible things to your thumb joint and the trigger guard gets the finger behind it.
Years back I had some bad folks that wanted me dead and I had movement outside my home.Dog was away for the night and nobody or anything could have been there that was up to any good.
I pulled both barrels of OO in a quick, turning shot at about 15 feet without enough grip and have some problems even today.
Two loads of OO up close will sure ruin the pelt on a hungry coyote. :(
I like the big-bullet sound too - the semi-auto 12 gauge produces the same effect, but you are right about the bulk. I have trained my wife to use the 12 gauge when I am traveling on the road. One additional advantage of the 12 guage, at least using it the way I have instructed the wife, is that if you kill a bad guy, you keep shooting until the wall board comes down. Built-in self-cleaning! It's kinda hard to do that with a 9mm.
but the hubby gave me a gift of 10 gauge, pump action
That's quite a weapon. I don't have much a need for 10 gauge. I probably go goose hunting maybe one every two years and the 12 gauge suffices. I do a lot of grouse hunting in PA - which means lots brambles and heavy cover. I've perfer a 20 guage with a short barrel. It has increased the number of shots I get off, just due to the fact I can swing more often without getting tied up in branches and such.Thats what these terrorist ragheads dont understand, the women of this country are just as likely to be carrying as the men - and not afraid to shoot either!
You got that right. My wife carries and most of her girlfriends carry too.
I take it that you know humblegunner lol
Now, don't get the wrong idea ... I don't go around like this, but ... I am right-handed, imagine a .45 under left arm, 9mm under right, and AR-15 slung on back. Add cammo.A semi-auto with pistolgrip can be good
I have thought about that a number of times. Sort of mid-way down on my priorty list. I'm restoring a .303 at the moment that my wife's grandfather gave me. I'm on FR too much to make signficant headway on that project to get work the pistolgrip on the ToDo list.
With a short double, you can get a good balance for one hand to swing fast.I can't seem to get used to more nose heavy shotguns for one hand use.
Closeup defense has always been high priority for me.
I catch critters that need catching.Years back,I'd catch bad two legged critters and they didn't seem to want me to keep breathing.
Now that I catch about anything besides men,the durn ALF-ELF types are a pain.I guess you just can't make everybody happy.
Saw the movie "Patton" about two weeks ago for the first time...pretty good.
Stay Prepared. :)
The movie is very good, but of course books are always better than movies. Read, "War As I Knew It", by Patton, "A Soldier's Story", by Gen. Omar Bradley (the movie was partly based on this book.), "Patton: A Genius for War" by Carlo D'Este. Other interesting reading would include "Patton on Leadership" by Alan Axelrod. "Patton on Leadership" is not biographical. It takes quotes and wisdom of Patton and puts a corporate spin on them. Leadership is leadership in any environment I suppose. If one would follow all of the wisdom in this book he would appear larger than life.
No. You sound like a concerned American citizen who has the foresight and the good sense to prepare for hardships that may come your way. Thus, you take personal responsibility for yourself and your family. Keep it up.
The only 9mm that I have is a Berreta P92, which is a back up to my Glock .45.
Roger that. Only my 9mm is a Glock 19, which is my primary backup to my Glock 21. Like to keep things in the family. -:)
My .308 is my sniper rifle.
Small world. So's mine. Strike that! My M1A is my target shooting rifle, which can easily be pressed into service if need be when TSHTF. Nobody here but us target shooters right now. -:)
By the way, my weapon of choice is a Rem. Model 11-97 semi auto 12 gauge shot gun - unplugged.
Interesting choice. I've still got my first 12 gauge in the closet -- a Mossberg 500 -- to go along with a Remington 870. Never could see a reason to upgrade from either one. Always like to keep it simple.
Now, I got myself thinking about hunting, Turkey season starts in a couple weeks here in PA. Time to do some day dreaming and turkey calling.
Lucky you. I could do with a day or two in the mountains myself. But it will be awhile before that. Shoot straight. Stay safe. And keep on being prepared.
Saw your post on another thread that said Klebold bloodied his own nose at Columbine when his cutdown double 12 kicked him.Never heard that before.
The picture you posted looked to me like that shotgun was several inches under legal length.
That is if length laws haven't changed over the years. Is the minimum length still 18 inches for shotgun barrels and 26 inches overall for shotguns?
