[M]entally retarded children into regular classrooms...where they can be neglected as much as any other student.

More like where they can command most of the time of the teacher, resulting in the neglect of the other students. I've seen it in my child's classes. Dumb everyone down even more.

RANT ON

This is one of the more personally offensive comments I've ever read on FR. As the father of a son with Downs Syndrome, I find your lack of tact and ignorance on the topic appalling. Mainstreaming children with learning disabilities does not result in neglect of other children, at least in schools that are well managed. It may surprise you to learn that within the last couple of years a number of learning disabled adults have attained college degrees and are becoming more productive members of our society due to mainstreaming.

I am always amazed by "Pro-Life" advocates who fail to realize exactly what that means. The Left would have loved us to abort this incredible child, as would you it seems - so your child won't be "neglected".

Oh, and by the way, your sentence "Dumb everyone down even more." is one of the more egregious grammar violations I've ever seen on FR.

RANT OFF

As a counselor, Miss USA is certainly right to take up the inclusion of learning disabled children into all classrooms. It is truly a noble effort on her part - certainly worthy of her position. I would suspect that she developed this opinion after research and experience with learning disabled children, and seeing these incredible children for who they really are.
