Anti-smoking activists suffered a blow this morning when an attempt to override Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano's veto of a smoking ordinance failed.

Wayne County Commissioners voted 7-3 this morning to override Ficano's veto. However, ten votes were needed; three commissioners were absent and two abstained.

Ficano's veto is a confirmation that some small amount of our government still has a small amount of respect for private property.

Commissioner Bernard Parker, a co-sponsor of the ordinance, said it was unfortunate that the issue became political.

It's only political when the Gnatzies lose!

You got that right. I read somewhere on FR that if it weren't for hypocricy, the dimocrats would have no moral compass!

Also amazing is that Ficano is a Democrat, but not a liberal socialist like most.

Since taxpayers are footing the bill for their health insurance, a law needs to be passed to insure that the commissioners eat only healthy foods like seaweed, tofu, brown rice and organic carrots so the health premiums don't rise. Their refrigerators should be open to public inspection and if caught eating a Big Mac or anything else at restaurant besides seaweed, the fine is $500. Get caught three times and it's a year in prison.

At first I was starting to get riled up by the opening of your post. I thought you were referring to smokers, not the politicians. My own short sightedness was coming into play. However, after reading your entire post, I agree 100%! If they want to impose the use of government guns to monitor our activities, in the name of health, they should start by opening up their lives for public inspection!

Of course, that won't happen. They consider themselves above us common folk, the same attitude of Fascist Dictators!
