I guess the one question I have is who was responsible for forming this commission and what if any vetting of members was done in advance. I suspect that the republicans did not do their homework on this one. That makes me almost as made as having this lunatic "Gorelick" on this so-called commission.

This is devestating to the committee's credibility ... Gorelick was a mole placed by the DemoncRATs to accompany Ben Viniste in their partisan gameplaying & coverup. Also see comments on NR's the Corner
To: r9etb
This memo added to the wall of sharing information between government agencies, such as the FBI and CIA.
This memo was written in 1995 by now-911-Committee member Gorelick.
Raises the question as to her having a conflict of interest.
The memo was secret, but Ashcroft just declassified it.

The Democrats picked the Democrats and the Republicans picked their representatives. The Republicans picked people that they thought would be non-partisan, but fair. The Democrats picked the most vicious partisans that they could find.

it's beyond a conflict of interest - her refusal to identify her own work - which she & Reno cronies bragged about as having totally hindered the FBI & CIA from working with each other, far beyond what the law previously prohibited, is an outrage. Imagine, you're another committee member, sitting there like an idiot and, meanwhile, she knows all about this memo BECAUSE SHE WROTE IT! Her refusal to mention it and her efforts to try and shield the committee from identifying it are an OUTRAGE!

suspect that the republicans did not do their homework on this one. That makes me almost as made as having this lunatic "Gorelick" on this so-called commission. It's more amusing if you consider the possibility that they did do their homework. Remember that Bush initially opposed the formation of this commission, and Condi Rice was very explicit about the difficulties of collecting and disseminating good intel, due to the Clintonian restrictions outlined here.
It's already quite obvious that the Democrats on the commission are compromised -- this just makes it more obvious. It's an interesting and effective way for Bush to cast blame where it belongs.

Part of me wants to laugh my a** off at Gorelick getting nailed as a partisan hack.
Then I realize that 3000 people died, mostly because of the efforts of Gorelick, Torricelli, Kerry, Frank Church, Otis Pike, and the whole crooked lot of Democrats who went out of their way to neuter our intelligence and law enforcement communities.

This was done for one purpose only - TO PROTECT THE CLINTONS FROM BEING CONNECTED TO CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.
I may not be able to prove that - I have just always felt that these people would have done anything to keep the Clintons safe from prosecution.

So what else is new.
I have also noted that all the dems have done on the stand is point fingers at the Bush admin - while all the Bush people have been at times complimentary to other members of other admins.
If anybody is paying attention - it was quite obvious.

Gorelick, Torricelli, Kerry, Frank Church, Otis Pike, and the whole crooked lot of Democrats
Those are the people who should be getting fried by this commission (particularly Torricelli), but instead they have Gorelick lecturing Condoleeza Rice about her shortcomings.

I've read this memo with the seriousness this very non-bureaucratic mind could muster.
Best as I can understand it Gorelick is establishing a separate group (or one had already been in existance I'm not clear on this) that would review whether information between the terrorist investigators could be shared with the criminal investigators.
So at that time, to put it in layman's terms, if the FBI was investigating me, Pat Fish, because their terrorism guys thought I was conniving with Osama to blow up the state of Delaware....AND the FBI criminal guys were investigating me, Pat Fish, because they thought I was making bombs to blow up the state of Delaware (assuming making bombs to blow up a state to be a federal crime, again I'm muddled), then, well, let me stop this sentence here.
Okay, now the terrorism invesigators discover that I am about to kill my next door neighbor because he has discovered about my bomb plan. But in order to inform the guys investigating my criminal activities of my murder plan, they must consult with this alphabet group then that alphabet group, and the alphabet groups will pass along my murder plans to the criminal guys IF it deems it necessary.
So the terrorism guy is also onto the fact that I'm about to hit Dover within a day so he figures, fooey, one neighbor doesn't much matter when the whole state of Delaware is at risk.
At least this is kinda how normal people act, not that bureauracies know anything about normal people.
That's my simple synopsis and somewhere in my muddled I understand that there lies some noble principal that is intended to protect, me, Pat Fish, from unwarranted intrusion into my civil liberties by government investigatory agencies.
Anyway, What the hell is Gorelick doing on that commission? I expect to see the Times and Wapo all over this disgrace.

Gorelick created THE WALL without which 911 would likely not have happened. That she is on the commission rather than testifying before it is beyond farce.
Is there any doubt who is responsible for this sick joke?
Much to her old boss's chagrin, she is actually performing a worthwhile function. Rather than helping to revise clinton's sorry legacy, her presence on the commission is simply underscoring it.
Nonetheless, remove this latest clinton insult to our country. Now!

Evidently Ashcroft said that because of Travelgate a prohibition was set up preventing the White House and FBI conferring.
I'm sure this was not well received by democrats across the nation, nor was the revelation of the Gorelick memo.
