From August 1940 to May 1941, the Luftwaffe's nightly terror bombings killed 43,000 British men, women and children. That was only phase one. Phase two, involving the V-1 flying bombs and, later, rockets, killed an additional 6,180. The British defense, was, to the say the least, ineffectual, particularly in the early stages of the war--the antiaircraft guns were few, the fire control system inadequate, as was the radar system. Still, it would have been impossible, then as now, to imagine victims of those nightly assaults rising up to declare war on their government, charging its leaders, say, with failure to develop effective radar--the British government had, after all, had plenty of warning that war was coming. It occurred to no one, including families who had lost husbands, wives and children, to claim that tens of thousands had been murdered on Winston Churchill's watch. They understood that their war was with the enemies bombing them.

Nor, to take an example closer to our time, did the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing give rise to a campaign of accusation (notwithstanding a conspiracy theory or two) against the government for its failure to prevent the attack.

This above states the misplaced anger of this Widows against the wrong people! They should be applauding GWB for going after the terrorists & not blaming him & his administration.

Quick post, Chick! I was coming here to do the same and ping it to Rep. we were just discussing these gals earlier.

Rabinowitz doesn't talk about any "peaceful tomorrows" angles here, maybe it doesn't apply to these folks in particular. And she may be a tad optimistic about the public losing interest.

I'm very sorry, a group of unelected housewives should really not be given veto power over national security.

Why aren't the Jersey Girls blaming the INS for allowing 19 terrorists into the country?

This will all be a big joke in just a few short weeks. The mob is running out of steam. What we have here is a mob mentality -- "We must blame someone, Bush is someone, therefore we must blame Bush!"

When 2 a.m. rolls around, and the whiskey stops flowing, these folks are going to be left with a big headache. It'll be everyone else, pounding them with, "You don't really believe 9/11 was Bush's fault, do you?"

Not to mention that the widows are probably fairly wealthy after life insurance pay off and charity/government compensation. The money allows them to have too much time on their hands.

I doubt their deceased spouses whould be too proud of their activism. The period of mourning has long past. Blaming our President serves only to diminish my sympathy.

About time someone in the mainstream media took these preening Professional Widows to task. But will we ever hear this from anyone to the left of the WSJ editorial page? Probably not.

Good Evening All-

Not looking for flames here, but did you ever notice how supremely idyllic every WTC/Pentagon/Pennsylvania marriage is portrayed?

Based on some of the brutal separtions and divorces I've witnessed among friends and classmates, I have to think that more than a few people simply shrugged their shoulders, said a prayer, and promptly continued their lives.

These professional mourners are becoming more and more transparent as time passes. Very interesting article, NYC GOP Chick.

What gives Chris Matthews, or Katie Couric for that matter, the right to give these partisan shills (and that's what they've become, regardless of their loss), so much air time? They dishonor not only the memory of their lost husbands, but the other 9-11 families.

This is about as baldfaced an attempt to orchestrate the manipulation of American opinion I've ever seen.

God forgive me, but I have gone from
feeling sorry for these people to now
feeling nothing but contempt for them
They're utterly disgusting.
They're typical damn democrats.
Useful idiots.
Victims.
Please stop me.
I am about to swear.

Chris Matthews has had them on so many times this very week that he just refers to them as "The Wives."

Chris has a jones for Kristen. He always seats her next to him, and defers to her on every question.

These women have already milked several mil from the governmnent, which is why they've got time to sit around and color-code PDBs.

Well short of a full combination plate, these Jersey Girls fail to realize that they've become a source of derision.

Like the visionary who fails to convince that the Blessed Virgin is REALLY in the pane of glass, Kristen Breitweiser and crew have passed shameful and are well into pitiful.

"Ms. Breitweiser said, by way of explaining the group's position, "why our husbands were killed. Why they went to work one day and didn't come back."

Well, I am sure I will be struck dead by God for saying this, but Mrs. Breitweiser's husband is dead because he was dumb enough to listen to the announcement of the Port Authority when they said it was safe to stay -- so he went BACK up the stairs to his office -- while an AIRPLANE was ON FIRE in the building 100 yards away.

I don't know. I do feel sorry for their losses -- I really do -- but they're using their pain to besmirch an administration that's doing their best to get their killers.

It's like Bush-bashing. Why do people hate Bush? What has Bush done to garner so much hatred? The only thing Bush has done is go after terrorists. If this is the reason why Bush is hated, then God help this country.
