By your logic, it follows that all people who engage in risky behavior always deserve to die.

All people who engage in risky behavior have no-one but themselves to blame if they succomb to the foreseeable consequences.

Spare me the self righteousness.

Who's being self-righteous? You're the one trying to shut people up because you don't approve of what they're saying. Do you seek out the Darwin Award threads, too?

I agree with you that the constant cackling about Rachel Corrie's demise is getting to be in gross poor taste. I don't agree regarding the 'deserve to die' bit.

Life's hard. It's harder when you're stupid. And briefer when you tempt fate. And bright or dumb, it's span is finite. Tempus Fugit. Memento Mori. Rachel Corrie's case calls to mind the young man challenging the tanks in Tian an Men Square ... with two crucial differences. 1) He survived; she did not. 2) He was opposing tyranny, oppression, and terrorism; she was supporting them. We account him a hero, her a goat. Why? Not because of what they did, but why they did it. He 'deserved' to die just as much as she did. He just got lucky. Her luck ran out. We often, particularly on this forum, make the ignorant and arrogant mistake of branding all our opponents 'cowards'. Whatever motivated Rachel Corrie, it was not cowardice. Call it courage, or at least fanaticism ... I find it tragic that such selfless devotion to principle and percieved duty was wasted on such a worthless and evil cause.

Enough with the Rachael Corrie threads people. Let's move on.

Hey P9 -- If YOU have 'had enough" of the Corrie thread, grab yourself a taxi and move on.

While her cousin was given a platform to defend her lunacy, fire will be returned.

Moreover, Corrie happens to be THE Poster Child for the idiocy, madness, AND hypocracy of both international anti-Americanism AND the Democratic Party.

Yeah. I started a thread a couple of days ago about the drunk on Fire Island who died when he set his rug on fire then bet his boyfriend that he could stay in the house longer (and won). My point is that the celebration of Corrie's death has gotten creepy.

So then it is ok to celebrate those deaths incessantly?

OK, I don't agree (as yet), but fair enough.

Yup, it's pretty much okay with me.

IF you had bothered to read the thread, you would have seen that my point is not that these threads should not exist, or even that she did not deserve her fate, but that the gleefull celebration of the death of a human being becomes unworthy FR after a while.

Rachel was killed by an Israeli bulldozer which intended to destroy the home of a Palestinian civilian,

HUH?? She was killed because she was stupid enough to stand in front a moving bulldozer. It appears the gene pool for the entire Corrie family is tainted with stupidity.

The article excerpts say nothing about Corrie's knowledge or lack of knowledge of the tunnels...just that the IDF was seeking such targets. Unless there was a statement by Corrie about tunnels or some other documentary evidence, there would appear to be no way to confirm if she knew about them or not. Her knowing about them is a reasonable assumption but without first-hand knowledge, nobody could confirm it.

Did the IDF state before the particular operation that they were going after tunnels? I don't know if they did or didn't. Even if they did, what kind of proof could one offer to say that Corrie was aware of such a statement if it did, in fact exist? There also appears to be no way to confirm that any Palestinians "clued her in" as to the existence and/or placement of said tunnels. I do think that it is safe to assume that Corrie knew she was defending and siding with armed persons. I don't buy the claim that somehow idealistic ignorance was the contrubuting factor in her death. She chose the wrong side and arrogantly taunted a force greater than herself assuming that a number of factors (including fear of bad PR) would keep her safe.

Did she know about the tunnels? That's not a fact that anyone can seem prove now.

Isn't there another picture of Corrie with an ugly scowl on her face while burning an American flag? Too bad she never met Jihad Johnny, they would have made a great couple.

As a general response, I'd like to say that maybe YOU should stop with these threads. The gloating over Ms. Roadkill's death seems a lot more prevalent when you seek it out.

"The gleefull celebration of the death of a human being becomes unworthy FR after a while."

I think you're the one misunderstanding the mood and the point of such "glee."

The circumstances of Rachel Corrie's death has become a metaphor for good triumphing over evil.
