Although the decision cost them the life of their son, Justin, Joe and Jan Johnson said they still feel that President George W. Bush was right to send U.S. troops into Iraq.
Given the chance, Jan Johnson said, shed like to personally thank the president. I think hed probably like to know that theres a mom whose son got killed who still supports him, she said.
Their support came as the Johnsons watched the presidents press conference from the White House on Tuesday night, signaling their agreement with his every response.
Throughout the televised event, Jan Johnson nodded along to the presidents answers. At one point, Bush proclaimed that he doesnt plan on losing the presidency this November, to which she responded to the television, Amen.
I support (Bush) 100 percent.
To me, we didnt start this, Jan Johnson said. Bush took it out of our country and back to them. Our guys are over there taking care of us here to make sure that doesnt come back to us.
Spc. 4th Class Justin Weaver Johnson, 22, was killed in Baghdad this past weekend when a roadside bomb exploded beside his Humvee, in which he was the gunner.
During the press conference, Bush fielded questions about his intentions to go into Iraq and his conviction to stay there until democracy is established, which hit home with the Johnsons.
The loss of Justin and other troops since the war began has been a necessary evil, Joe Johnson said. It has to be done. If we werent there, it would be a more dangerous place.
If we dont stay there, its going to turn into another hot spot, and my sons death will turn into nothing, Jan Jonhson said, tears running down her cheeks. We need to stay until its over.

I guarantee you, that if we take the above away from this family that we pour salt into the open wounds of their grief.
The ultimate meaning of their child's death was to protect his country, his friends, and his family.
What message does John Kerry and Ted Kennedy and the Democrats send them by undermining the legitimacy of our cause for going to war -- that we were protecting our nation from attack? It is clear, the demonrat message tells them that their child's DEATH was in vain.
Last night the president said exactly that. He is exceptionally perceptive. He said last night at this link, "One of the things that's very important," he said, "is to never allow our youngsters to die in vain. And I made that pledge to their parents. Withdrawing from the battlefield of Iraq would be just that, and it's not going to happen under my watch." ,

I agree, xzins.Jim Angle said that statement to the families was his most important point proving his determination to stay the course in Iraq.
I said on another thread that the dems over the line criticism about Iraq and its"failures", does not "nevertheless" show support for the troops. It undermines their sacrifice and morale.
I believe it encourages the enemy and costs lives.

M33, I totally agree with you. They undermine our troops with their rhetoric about "supporting the troops but opposing the war." It's sheer sophistry that is only rational as a soundbite and not as a real position.
I will readily agree that the government got to the point in late Vietnam where its actions demonstrated it did not have the will to win the war in Vietnam. But, that was something that came about over a series of years. The death-knell for Vietnam was the decision during Johnson's years that opposed attacking across borders into Laos and Cambodia and opposed bombing the north. They took the war out of the hands of generals and put it in the hands of politicians are war protesters. At that point, the nation signaled that it had no intention of winning in Vietnam.
But that came about over a period of years.
We have been in Iraq merely one year and we have total control of the country except for this low-intensity conflict with baathist remnants and islamofascist terrorists.
There is no way that any fair-minded person can fault the meaning of the war on Iraq given (1) that we've been engaged in it for just one year, (2) that we are clearly trying to win it, and (3) that the reason for the war is definitely to protect the security of our own people and nation.

Bush took it out of our country and back to them. Our guys are over there taking care of us here to make sure that doesnt come back to us. This is a fact that the US Military and their family truly understands! It is so simple that it seems to go right over the heads of the democrats!
May the LORD touch every wife, child, mother and father of these special men who gave their lives to protect America from another 9/11! I bless them everyday!

Imagine. You have just recieved word that your beloved son has perished at the hands of Islam. John Kerry is calling your son's military leader a liar, an opportunist, that he had foreknowledge of the Islamic attack(s) of 9/11, and that he (George Bush) has prolonged the war to remain in office.
Only to realize and say, "If we dont stay there, its going to turn into another hot spot, and my sons death will turn into nothing . ."

There were two more on Larry King live too. One young man who just didn't get it. But a wife and her father in law who did. And the sister of one of the pilots whose plan was flown into the WTC who gets it.
God Bless them all. I've never been so proud in my life.
True patriots! Their loved ones are the epitome the word HERO! Their loved ones left behind are some of the bravest people I've seen. They made us all proud and they too are serving us well. God Bless them for "THEIR" service to our country!
I go to bed feeling safer and so proud after hearing them speak. May God comfort and bless them in their grief and in their lives.

ROME, Ga. -- Jan Johnson got home from church Sunday to find a U.S. Army chaplain and sergeant in her driveway. They brought news that her youngest son, Justin, was Rome's first casualty from the war in Iraq.
Spc. 4th Class Justin Johnson, 22, was killed when a roadside bomb detonated as his Humvee passed in Baghdad, Jan Johnson said. She did not know what day Justin was killed, and the Army had not confirmed the casualty Monday.
Justin Johnson, based with the 1st Cavalry in Fort Hood, Texas, was a gunner on the Humvee. His mother said he was killed in Sadar City, in Baghdad. He had been in Iraq a week. Link

Well, more seriously than my previous, I think it does go with "love not the world." The press is the world, in its tumultuous, baseless, valueless, anti-God/anti-godliness viciousness rapaciousness. One mustn't hate the individuals, but what they are as a mass, and what animates them, is I think what Christians are to hate.
In Bill Clinton, for instance, you see someone who loves the world, someone whose values and actions were shaped with a constant eye on the media, whom he lived to please. I have many areas in which I wish President Bush were to the right of where he is, but in that sense he does not love the world. He walks the course he believes is right, the media's love be damned.
