Jamie Gorelick joined the America's Promise board of directors in April 1997. Jamie Gorelick's career has spanned the legal, policy, and corporate landscape. She was Vice Chair of Fannie Mae, the nation's largest source of financing for home mortgages. She shared responsibility for overall management of the company, directs its efforts to reach underserved markets and oversees Fannie Mae's external relationships, legal and regulatory affairs. Ms. Gorelick, who previously served as Deputy Attorney General of the United States and General Counsel of the Department of Defense, has been a consultant to the government's effort to restructure the intelligence capabilities of the nation to better meet the challenges of terrorism. For nearly twenty years, Ms. Gorelick was a leading litigator in Washington, DC, representing major U.S. companies on legal and business matters.
Ms. Gorelick is vice chair of the Fannie Mae board and of the board of the Fannie Mae Foundation. She also serves on several other boards, including United Technologies Corporation; Schlumberger, Limited; The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation; Harvard College Board of Overseers; the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless; Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; Local Initiative Support Corporation; and The National Park Foundation, as well as numerous other philanthropic entities. She has received many awards, including the Secretary of Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Outstanding Public Interest Advocate of the Year Award, and the Women's Bar Association's Woman Lawyer of the Year Award. She is listed in Fortune magazine's "Fifty Most Powerful Women in American Business," and in Working Mother magazine's "Twenty-Five Most Influential Working Mothers in America." Ms. Gorelick is a graduate of Harvard College, where she was Radcliffe Orator, and is a graduate of Harvard Law School.
