The paperclip-shaped short track known as Martinsville opened in 1947, two years before NASCAR was founded. Under the direction of H. Clay Earles, who ran the speedway until his death in 1999, Martinsville grew from a dusty, rough-hewn operation into one of the most beautiful and modern racing facilities around.

Morgan has been around awhile, Shelmerdine has raced for years but is trying to make it up with the big dogs, and averaging about 42nd this year, and gaughan is a rookie/young 'un with lots of promise, he was a truck driver and drives Busch too, I think.

Morgan Shepherd is an old timer. He used to have a full time ride back when Harry Gant was running the Skoll #33. Brendan Gaughan is a rookie. Kirk Shelmerdine used to be Dale Earnhardt's crew chief before he started racing himself.

Hate it when that happens; that's why I reset my lineup right after the race (and I'm glad I did :-)

I hate it that Speed's not on basic cable (the digital converter's out in the living room, and the computer isn't). Great runs by Flash, McMurray and Rocket Man netted me the maximum possible qualifying bonus points of 18 (Jr, who qualified 4th, is the third "A" driver in the top 4).

Congrats to Flash on the pole; may he get another grandfather clock (meanwhile, Mikey once again didn't pay attention to DW and will start from Provisional Land).
