Al-Hayat: Plot to detonate charge at military installation could have killed 20,000 people, experts say. Terror cell connected to al-Qaeda mastermind Zarqawi. The terror cell that was apprehended last week in Jordan planned to carry out a large-scale chemical attack, Jordanian officials told the al-Hayat London-based newspaper. According to the officials, the successful prevention of the attack may have saved thousands of lives.
The report added that the terrorists planned to detonate a powerful chemical bomb at a Jordanian Military Intelligence installation. The cell also intended to use poison gas during attacks on the US embassy in Amman and a government building in the country.
The officials said that following the interrogation of the cell members, it was revealed they were connected to senior al-Qaeda operative Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who is high up on the US most wanted list.
The terrorists managed to smuggle three cars packed with explosives. In one of the cars, security forces found the chemical charge.
The officials were quoted as saying, The bomb, had it been detonated, could have affected people in a one kilometer radius and cause the deaths of up to 20,000 people, according to estimates.
King of Jordan Abdullah II on Wednesday sent a letter of appreciation to the Kingdoms security forces who managed to foil the plot. Thank God, the plans of these criminals were foiled and thousands of souls were saved from a crime this country has never known.

The terrorists don't care who they kill--soldiers, civilians, muslims, children, women, whoever. They are barbarians. We have to deal with them as such. They are murderous thugs.

SO what was Jordan's crime?
King Abdullah had an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal today. All very nice, Jordan is trying to make progress, move into the 20th century, more open society, more individual freedom, etc. All very nice. Ended with some sui generis call for a solution to the Israel/Pali problem (my words, not his). I wonder how that article fits in with this piece.
HEY MUSLIMS, THESE PEOPLE WANT TO KILL YOU ALL TOO!
Maybe a few more plots like this an these folks will wake up. I find it hard to think any ruler will imagine he can long stay in power by appeasing terrorists who want to kill tens of thousands of his subjects.

The terrorist only want the world intheir image...satan's... But don't miss the point...THOSE WMD'S HAD TO COME FROM SOMEWHERE! And they are affliated with Zarqawi!!! Zarqawi IS IN IRAQ!!!
To: Jewels1091
I'm starting to think of the old ways. Catch one of these terrorists and sew him up in a snug wet leather bag. Then let the sun dry it out. I'd even settle for one of them being staked spread eagle with a thin wet leather cord around his neck.
The terrorists no if caught we will treat them with care. a few wet leather "accidents" and I'll bet their attitude changes.

You are right, that's where it came from, I'm sure. But my point, I must be making badly...THOSE WMD'S HAD TO HAVE COME FROM IRAQ!!! THERE'S THE SMOKING GUN THE DEMOCRATS WANTED!! JORDAN HAS TO TRACE THEM BACK AND SEE IF THE DEFINATELY CAME FROM IRAQ!!!

It is clearly illegal to use the words WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION and IRAQ in the same sentence!

Until there is record of UN inspector who witness the transfer of the WMDS to the operatives, and we have the registration papers of the truck that carried the chemicals traced back to the perpetrators origin, and we obtain a video of the scientist confessing they made them, and we had captured the ringleader with the chemicals on his hands, and the ghost of Mohammed appeared on national TV telling us where they were hidden and the fat lady sang, non of the anti-Bush - hate US folks will ever believe these came from Iraq, and even then it would be a stretch...

What kind of chemical could have been in this car bomb that would have killed 20,000.
Don't chemicals burn?
I have a hunch....about what is could have been.

Mustard gas?
This had been reported on Debka a couple of weeks ago.
Great job by the Jordanians in finding these cars and trucks.

SO what was Jordan's crime? Jordan was a major staging area for special operations into Western Iraq.

Recall that there was a charge of cyanide in the first WTC bomb. But the heat of the explosion consumed it.
Ramzei and the boys evidently didn't anticipate this natural reaction. So, assuming it wasn't radiological, what it have been?

Loftus also saying "a 2000 pound laser guided bomb was dropped on Fallujah in the last 12 hours", apparently against some target with a possible "high value" person. Who knows, let's see where it goes.

Chemical attack said thwarted on Jordan security HQ, US embassy
Text of report by Basil Rafay'ah in Amman entitled 'Al-Zarqawi cell' planned to strike The Jordanian General Intelligence building with a chemical bomb" published by London-based newspaper Al-Hayat on 16 April
Informed Jordanian sources have disclosed to Al-Hayat that a fundamentalist cell seized over a week ago planned to carry out a large-scale chemical bomb attack on the General Intelligence Building in Amman. Investigation has proved that this cell is linked to Jordanian fundamentalist Ahmad al-Khalaylah, known as Abu-Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, wanted by the United States in Iraq for over a year.
The sources said that two members of the cell, Sulayman Khalid Darwish and Muwaffaq Ali Adwan, who were apprehended, set up a cell run by Al-Zarqawi and financed by his helpers in Iraq and Iran. The two entered Jordan through the northern border with Syria with another member who is still at large inside the kingdom. The sources said that the three and others brought three cars laden with weapons and explosives into Jordan at the end of last month. The security forces seized the three cars at a distance of 120 km from the border with Syria and found inside them poisons, explosive materials and a chemical bomb, which the fundamentalist cell planned to throw at the General Intelligence Building.
The sources explained that "had the bomb exploded, over 20,000 people would have been killed and all buildings in a radius of one kilometre would have been completely destroyed". The source also affirmed that "the Al-Zarqawi cell planned to use poisonous gases against the Jordanian Prime Ministry building and the US embassy in Amman".
King Abdallah II hinted Wednesday [14 April] at the cell's plans in a message of esteem and appreciation he sent to Director of General Intelligence Lt Gen Sa'd Khayr. In his message, the King said that "God's care has foiled the plans of these criminals and saved the lives of thousands of citizens from an unprecedented crime as regards the quantity of the explosives packed inside the cars, the method of the implementation, and the civilian sites that were to be targeted by this terrorist cell."

Don't chemicals burn? It depends on the agent. A blister agent like mustard gas could be considered as burning, I suppose. But a nerve agent like sarin is inhaled and/or absorbed through the skin and basically caused the nerve endings to malfunction, usually causing a quick death. There are also blood agents and others as well.

This subject comes to mind all the time. If nothing happens ever, does that "prove" that homeland security is a monumental waste of time, energy and bucks?
Some people would argue exactly that with a straight face. Or they might argue that it proves that islam is a religion of tolerance and peace.
