CHARLESTON, S.C. (NNS) -- In April, scientists working for the Naval Historical Center, after years of extensive research, released facial reconstructions and crew-profiles of eight crew members of the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley.

The Civil War-era crew consisted of sub commander Lt. George Dixon and crewmembers Arnold Becker, Lumkin (first name unknown), Joseph Ridgaway, Frank Collins, Miller (first name unknown), Cpl. J.F. Carlsen and James A Wicks.

The profiles and personal information were created from extensive genealogical and scientific research led by the Hunley project’s scientist team.

The release of the Hunley crew’s facial reconstructions is part of a series of events beginning a week prior to the funeral to honor the brave submariners. The culminating event is marked by the heroes’ final journey to the Magnolia Cemetery, where they will be laid to rest next to their fellow compatriots at the Hunley burial plot.

“It has been a goal of the Hunley Commission for nine years to bring together all of the Hunley crews," said South Carolina State Sen. Glenn F. McConnell, chairman of the Hunley Commission.

For further information on the burial, lecture topics and surrounding events please visit www.hunley.org.

The facial reconstructions, complemented by personal histories of the crew, will be released at a rate of two per day and can be downloaded from the Friends of the Hunley Web site at www.hunley.org.

The're gonna fly the evil confederate flag at that funeral. Animals. All of them. How dare they disgrace the soil of this great nation with a tribute to a bunch of racist pro slave traitors who deserve anonimity and contempt rather than honor and dignity.

(just getting that out of the way early in the thread :-) )

No kidding...I was visiting the website, and I wondered how long until the whole project gets shut down because it was part of the evil confederacy..

I went to the site but couldn't find the facial reconstruction photos. Any clue as to where they are on the site?

I couldn't find them either. I don't think they've posted them.
