There is a book called White Storm about a virus engineered to attack certain groups of people based upon their DNA. The only problem was in the book, the virus mutated killing off all humans in Ireland.

I think the book you are referring to was called White Plague. It started when an American Scientist (I think) saw his wife killed in Ireland by a terrorists bomb. Said scientist went off the deep end, and in his desire for vengeance, "discovered" the code to DNA. Using this knowledge, he creates a virus that only attacks women, and soon all but a handful of women on the planet are dead. At least, that's the way I remember that book, but I certainly could be mistaken.

Very disturbing novel, but fairly enjoyable, IMO.
