9/11 Commission backlash.
They made such a big deal about the Commission and Dr. Rice's refusal to testify, that her and Mr. Ashcroft's testimony has raised this to high drama and must see TV.

Heck, there are people in my office passing around internet stories, WSJ stories, emails, etc., when they call a witness. They overplayed, as usual. Thankfully.
