M1Tanker said in part: unless ANSWER, Move-On.org, or any such hate group physically attacks me, my family, or a military installation (all being very dumb things to do), informing people about them in words is all I can do. The US Army frowns on its soldiers showing up in marches

Show up to peacefully counter-protest them, even keeping your distance and not disrupting their event, and a few of them might attack you. Or as Doctor Raoul says: "In my adult life, the only people who've hit me or challenged me to fight have been 'peace' protestors."

Maybe former military FReepers BufordP and Dagnabbit can comment on the Army's position about military members lawfully and peacefully protesting or counter-protesting, out of uniform and on their own time?

Thanks for all you and other troops do to safeguard the country and my freedom.

You said the magic words: Own time.

I help train Army officers, NCOs and new enlistees... Not much room for time off. Plus, I'm an officer and we are held to different standards.

As for thanks, it is I who should thank you since it's a priveledge to be in the US Armed Forces and being able to defend people who will fight for political freedom here. I enlisted, went to college and ROTC, and am now an officer. I've been in over 10 years and plan to stay as long as the Army will have me.

Yours in Service,
Chris

I must have slept through whatever military law or ethics course covered off-duty protesting, because I really don't know. We've had some active duty folks, enlisted and officer, join in some of the FR events in which I've participated - aparently without ill efect.

That said, I don't think, were I still in the military, that I would give an interview using my real name, while Freeping.
