Excerpt -
Columnist Mary McGrory, a major figure in 20th-century American journalism, a writer of lasting influence, exquisite technique, liberal convictions, a contempt for phonies and a love of orphans and delphiniums, died last night at George Washington University Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman declined to give the cause of death.

A few years ago I complained LOUDLY to my small town newspaper for featuring Mary McGrory's editorials on their op-ed page. A few months later, they replaced her......with Dan Rather. I, for one, can honestly say I miss Mary McGrory! (RIP)

Pardon me as I shed no tears.

She once wrote of an Adlai Stevenson 1952 Democratic Party Convention speech, "Politically speaking, it was the Christmas morning of our lives."
Good writer, she was. But partisan through and through.

It is sad that she died, but why does her employer lie about her? In what way was she a major figure in 20th Century journalism? None that I can think of.

Hewing in this instance to the Latin proverb "*De mortuis nil nisi bonum* [Say nothing but good of the dead]," I exercise my right to remain silent.

"
A hospital spokeswoman declined to give the cause of death."Is it possible to die of an accumulated excess of hatred for common sense and those who use it?

That's one of the really sad parts of this. She won't be around to see the left's major defeat in November.

I am reminded of another frothing liberal journalist - I believe his name was Nils Erik Larsen - who literally died of apoplexy a few years ago while watching Bush speak on TV. As for Mary, 85 is a decent age to go, so RIP.

When I moved to Washington, I discovered McGrory was so predictably bad there was no point reading her. I mean, even that notorious @$$hole Richard Cohen manages about twice a year to write something I agree with, even if he never writes anything well. McGrory, however, had a perfect record: 100 percent wrong about everything.
Cause of death: Terminal cerebral atrophy and chronic coronary hemorrhage.
