This story truly illustrates how grateful our countrymen are for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom...no matter what the talking heads on television, Ted Kennedy, or the lefites in the DNC say.

It also illustrates the true sickness and distaste that the lefties in this country have for their fellow man, especially those who die to protect the very freedoms that these people enjoy every day.

It also points to the utter depravity that John Kerry must have in his heart to come back from combat in Vietnam and say the things that he has said. His continued assault on the President about Iraq --a war that is far from a quagmire, as the Senator likes to imply-- is an extension of this depraved thinking.

After reading this story, there is no doubt in my mind that once America starts paying attention, there is no hope for the lefties. In a fashion similar to the terrorists they are willing to appease, their all out assault on American values and the attack on the President is their "last stand".

After the election in November, only the dunderheads in the media will still be talking about a "divided" country. Their commentary will finally be seen for the drivel that it is and has been for many years.

It reminds me a of a poignant moment last weekend. The family was travelling and we stopped for gas and snacks. There were 3 soldiers (Army) inside the conveience store. As we walked into the store, my 5-year old son noticed the soldiers. My son walks right up to the soldiers and says, "Thank you for protecting us against the bad guys" and extended his hand to shake theirs.

Bottom line: Even my 5-year old son gets it. Maybe I will have my son teach these liberals a thing or two about respect. They could certainly use it.

PFC Phelps, I salute you. I honor you in prayers and praise. Thank you. God Bless your family.

Hit me hard too. If I'm not mistaken, Chance Phelps was in the 3rd Brigade, 11th Marine Regiment. I don't know which battery. My son is serving with the K battery of this brigade. I'm sure there is much to be learned about PFC Phelps that would cause our hearts to burst with pride. Indeed, beautifully written.

Thanks for posting this. I saw the picture of the casket in the horse drawn carriage the other day and remembered the name of the young Marine. I'm glad to learn more of the story behind the picture.

Thank you for posting this. And please, thank those Marines who do the burial details for us. To greet our loved ones when they return, to honor them when no one else sees - tell them, thank you.

Because our losses have been relatively light in this war, compared to previous ones (with deaths in the hundreds or thousands each week, e.g., WWI and II, Vietnam), it's almost possible to "get to know" each man who died.

Here's another, from a small town near me: Friends, Relatives Remember Area Marine Killed in Iraq.
