Oh, how wonderful! Gets my heart aching at how out-of-wedlock births and cohabitation is accepted so readily today, without any sense of shame, especially when the chances of them getting married or staying together if they do marry has just dropped to about 50%. Why doesn't Coughlin put some pressure on the idiot to make his daughter respectable.

Katie Coughlin is scheduled to graduate from Boston College this spring.

Conservative Catholic school, isn't it? She hasn't learned much, apparently.

"The fact of the matter is that both families are extremely happy," Coughlin said. "We're very proud of our daughter, Katie, and we're very proud of Chris Snee and the commitment they have made towards raising our grandson, Dylan."

Daddy, I'm your little princess, right? Won't you let that guy who knocked me up play football with you? Please, Daddy?

When we called them "bastards" there were far fewer of them. I guess the way to get drafted by an NFL team is to knock up the coach's daughter....charming.

That's exactly why I use the phrase (as well as pro-abortion, and I never use "homosexual as a pronoun - it's always "people who engage in homosexual behavior). This p.c. crap to make people feel better about themselves has helped greased the downward slope to present-day Soddom & Gommorah. It's a product of the feminazi movement that because it's the woman who gets pregnant, and was usually the one that was scorned, that the culture was changed. Instead of being lax, should've stigmatized the father just as well.

I got married in 1998, and it was not presumed that my wife and I having sex - it would've been harshly dealt with by her family. For about 98% of the rest of society, if you go on more than 3 dates, it's presumed that you're having sex with each other. Sad.

Snee was the second pick of the second round, the 34th choice overall in the NFL draft.

FWIW, of the 4 mock draft results that I've seen, Snee was anywhere between the 40th and 64th pick overall.

Yes. Calling the innocent child a "bastard" for the rest of his life certainly does wonders for him/her, doesn't it?

And, GO, the reason they may not be married is because they don't want to be. Shotgun weddings are not recognized as valid by the Catholic Church.

Actually, this might surprise you, but at least 1/4 if not 1/3 of all marred couples are virgins at marriage. Many ofthe rest have only shacked up with each other, which while deplorable, is a lot more understandable than the perhaps 1/3 or more who go for multiple sex partners in life. There's a large government study about American sexual habits where you can look this up.

I still call them bastards.

I teach a few at church on Wednesday night.

Some are not only bastards, but brats as well.

That's my Sinky! Endorsing having children out of wedlock. BTW, I do agree it's not nice to call children bastards.

Endorsing having children out of wedlock.

You're such a buffoon, CDID. A nasty, rude, obnoxious buffoon, to boot.

This is really bizarre. The pro sports arena has become such a soap opera. A man who is a big sports fan has lost rights to ridicule women who are soap opera fans... they adore the same characterless characters, but hers wear better clothes (when they bother with clothes).

You might want to define respectable. There are too few of the younger generation that have ever heard that word much less could describe the nature or basic qualities of the concept.

Yes. After learning of being pregnant, all unwed mothers should march right down to the nearest abortuary and murder their children. As a matter of fact, we should pass a law mandating that all unmarried pregnant women either get married or have their babies killed. Yep, exactly what we should do - because you know, we can't impose societal shame on people anymore for their misbegotten behavior. And imposing shame, of course, means their families should abandon them, they can't receive help from their local social service agency, they can't hold jobs, and must pay double for food and clothing.

Please, let's have a serious response instead of something out of the liberal handbook (not that you are a liberal).

Let me rephrase (surprised that I should have to) - if we refer to the children as "bastard children", it should impact the parents who are irresponsible enough to have a child out of wedlock. Are you seriously suggesting that anyone holding my view means that we should we call or refer to a 5 year old child as a bastard? We can and should impose shame upon those who engage in irresponsible behavior that has deleterious effects on society, whether it's out-of-wedlock births, homosexual behavior, adultery, etc.

As for as people not getting married because they don't want to be, then don't engage in the behavior. We are not animals who act solely on instinct; we have the ability to reason and to control our behaviors. Part of the reason why we have the problem we do is because pre-marital (and even extra-marital, really) sex is no longer condemned as it once was. And we are surely not better off as a society for this lessening of societal morality.

Is that 1/3 number for people getting married in 2004 or for all married couples, whether married in 1954 or 2004? I have read that 85%-90% of brides are not virgins on their wedding day- so I question your statistics.
