I would prefer to see the Navy rush some submarine launched arms there...by air and under their own propulsion.

I have been searching to substantiate the information that I heard on FoxNews last night. In a report about Tillman's death they reported that one of their military consultant's lost his son night before last in an accident while he was training at Ft. Bragg. He was in Special Forces. I think it was Paul Vallely's son. Have you seen a report of that on Free Republic? I have searched every search engine I know.

Thanks,
Joy

"Then we started checking whether we still had our 10 fingers on," Monti recalled of the recent ambush south of Baghdad.

I know how it feels. After running a river we’d always check for limbs and leaks.
Yep! Two arms, two legs - and no leaks.
It was a very good feeling - actually a high - when the check was OK.

The M1114 Up Armored HMMWV is just a standard HMMWV that has been modified in the same way that armored limousines for executive protection are modified. A major shortcoming of this approach is the flat undercarriage .

Purpose-built armored vehicles usually have V-shaped hulls which deflect blast away from the crew compartment instead of taking up through the floorboards.

The Army has a vehicle superior to the M1114 for Stability and Security Operations, the M1117, but they have chosen not to buy anymore.

This report is just a staging move not intended for Iraq. Looks like Syria and Iran are next on the hit parade; these are not needed for the operations in Iraq. Something big is in the offing and it looks like it will be sooner rather than later.

An armored Humvee, the M1114, first appeared in 1993 but the Army initially ordered a few, apparently not envisioning post-Cold War conflicts and peacekeeping missions such as Somalia, Kosovo, Haiti and Iraq, where guerrilla attacks could come anywhere and anytime.

More of "Clintons military".

You would think after Somalia the vast majority in the inventory would be armored.

I finally found Vallely's picture and it was his son that they said had died at Ft. Bragg. FoxNews showed a picture of the two of them. He was in Special Forces. They said it was his only son.

His son was taller than him and very nice looking. If I find any other information I will post it. My heart grieves for him.

the M1114 probably ranks No. 1 on the wish list of many soldiers in Iraq, since it can stop AK-47 bullets, anti-personnel RPGs and most roadside bombs and mines

Sheesh, let's get the factories rolling then.

"Then we started checking whether we still had our 10 fingers on," Monti recalled of the recent ambush south of Baghdad.

Not only had all four soldiers escaped injury, but the vehicle — which had been fortified by armor plating and bulletproof glass — came through with just a few dents and a cracked windshield.

"There probably would have been wounds, maybe mortal ones, in your basic Humvee," said Monti, of St. Louis. "Every vehicle that goes out on the road should be 'up-armored.' Your safety is dramatically increased."

There is absolutely no reason I can think of that we don't have all of our Humvees with armor plating. Increase the pay for each armored Humvee by 5 and contract it out to any qualified company in the country. They should be pushed out 24/7!

We are fighting this war to date with the remaining balance of the "Peace Dividend" military and the remains of the Clintonazis' Politburo's social dogmas and serial "Tailhook" purges gutting our military/intelligence services. Remember the Up (yours) or out" purges?

See Kerry's and Mary Jo's killer's record and glee among the corrupt socialist caucuses.

Every soldier volunteer and future draftee must have a mini-MOS of lightfoot infantry, prepared to engage jihadi illegal combatant/war criminals at the first threat at home and abroad.

Canvass Humvees are a symptom of Beltway politics, our troops are and shall remain in harm's way. Iraq was little more than a Baathist weapons depot with millions of potential IEDs.

This global Terror War on Civilization is still just being awakened. Our every community is merely another Library of Alexandria, to be burned because their koran is all worthy to be known. This war shall become Old Testament for us to prevail and New Testament for us to find peace.

When the war began, only about 2 percent of Army's 110,000 Humvees were armored. Now, of the nearly 15,000 Humvees in Iraq, about 1,500 to 2,000 are armored, according to the Army. The numbers are increasing.
