In 1987, President Reagan vetoes the Surface Transportation and Uniform Relocation assitance act. Senators Edward Kennedy and Robert Byrd of West Va. the threatned to pull a number of subsidies. This all lead to a bill being signed which allocated 2.5 billion Federal dollars that was approved for the Big Dig, which was to modernize highways and tunnels in the south end of Boston Ma. Later Kennedy got an editional 100 million thrown into the pot.
Intially budgeted by Massachussets authoritiat 2.6 billion, the Dig, has now cost us American taxpayers close to 15 billion and money is still being spent.
For ten years, Senators Kennedy and John Kerry, and Governors Weld, Celluci, and Swift, all looked the other way as tax money was looted by organized crime, corrupt unions, and incompetent management of the vast construction project.

Wow, and they have the nerve to yell about the cost of defending the United States from Terror groups and Saddam Hussien, who backed them? The money is still pouring out? The Boston Globe Newspaper proved corruption, and no demand for an investigation by Ted Kennedy or John Kerry? Someone had better investigate this travesty. Ops4 God Bless America!

Is there any substantive data on how Kerry and Kennedy's actions/inaction with respect to this gigantic "porking" of the rest of the country?

Both sides are in on the Big Dig scam which is why there will never be a 'real' investigation. Do a Google search on "Andrew Card" and "Andrew Natsios", two members of the Bush Administration, and two Big Dig intimates.

http://magic-city-news.com/article_948.shtml As detailed in the AP report, Kerry blocked an effort to rein in the $15 billion Big Dig highway project in Massachusetts and interceded on behalf of insurer American International Group (AIG) so that they could funnel $130 million in excess government payments into private investments. Despite Kerry's claims that special interests haven't influenced him, AIG subsequently paid some of his travel expenses, and AIG executives have maxed out donations to his campaign fund. In 2002, AIG gave $30,000 to Kerry's unlimited soft money fund for his presidential run. In addition, other Big Dig contractors contributed at least $60,000 in soft money to Kerrys 527 Citizen Soldier PAC. (Political Money Line Website, www.tray.com Accessed 2/4/04)

Let's keep this one a secret, mmm-kay?
Actually I am surprised more people nationally don't know about this - everyone in Boston does.

Some of the problems with the Big Dig have doubtless been due to the usual incestuous relationship between government and business. I doubt that the businessmen involved have been selective as far as which party they've been keeping happy, though; my guess is that you'll find that they've covered their butts by funneling money to Republicans as well as Democrats.
Understand, too, that some of the problems have been due to the demands of the project itself. There have been numerous "first time ever" problems that have had to have been solved (check out www.bigdig.com to read up on the engineering challenges), and budgets for such things are always a work of fantasy.

My father is a Reagan Democrat from Minnesota.
At first he thought the Big Dig was a wonderful way to create jobs.
Then, I explained to him that the Big Dig was costing every man woman and child in this country about $50 each. I clarified this by explaining that it was costing both him and mom $100 for a tunnel that they will never drive through. I then let him know how the Big Dig is buying those who have an apartment along the construction route a new matress so that they can sleep better through the construction. I let him know about friend who makes deliveries to the work site - and had stories of how broken construction equipment wasn't being fixed - rather brand new equipment was being purchased to replace equipment that needed only the most routine type of repairs.
My father was very surprised at this and has changed his opinion on the need for this major league pork.

Bostons Big Dig in Sen. Kerrys home state of Massachusetts is a fine example of how special interests use their influence in Washington to drain money from the federal treasury.
The recently opened Big Dig is a 7.5-mile underground freeway replacing an unsightly elevated roadway that marred Bostons skyline. The Big Dig is also the largest public works boondoggle in history. In todays dollars, it cost twice as much as the Panama Canal. But without the universal benefit the canal produced.

WASHINGTON, May 03, 2000 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Sen. John McCain, upset at massive cost overruns for the ``Big Dig'' tunnel project through downtown Boston, said Wednesday he may introduce legislation to ensure no more federal money is spent on it.
