If your car were stolen, I'd bet you'd be all in favor of this.

Ummm...what if you looked exactly like an escaped murderer?

The way i see it a license plate is for intentional display and is not subject to constitutional privacy issues.

Is your problem with the potential for abuse, or would you object even if the digital photographs were erased as soon as their absence from the database was confirmed?
To: CanisRex
Well, how about if your daughter was abducted by a known rapist, after he shot your wife. Then how would you feel about a system like this?
To: proxy_user
what if you looked exactly like an escaped murderer? Then with or without advanced technology you might find yourself being questioned.
To: cripplecreek
I think you're right about the license plate being for identification.
And, the streets are public. If you want privacy, stay off public roads.

Stop using logic. You have to think like an emotional and delusional paranoid; evil govermental forces are watching you, just waiting to kick your door in and throw you in jail.
Wear lots of Reynolds Wrap under your baseball cap. And skip the med's.
This type of thing in no way hampers anyone. It is passive, and only registers violators. No one cares if you run to the bowling alley every Friday night. Sheesh ...

Granted you're out in public on a public road, but my expectation of privacy, even if I'm a criminal, is that I won't be suspect unless I see a cop and there is probable cause (heh) to be pulled over. My worry is that there is a continual decline in personal liberties and yes, an expectation of privacy and we continue to slide toward some Orwellian end.

Right you are. I'm just saying that the line continues to get a finer and finer point put on it.

A cop can run your plate any time he feels like it. I would wager a weeks salary you have had you plate run without your knowledge.

How do you feel about the "I won't go to the (insert newspaper here) website because I have to register" crowd?
(Umm, when you got home delivery of your paper, you gave them your name and wrote them a check)

My worry is that there is a continual decline in personal liberties and yes, an expectation of privacy and we continue to slide toward some Orwellian end. True. But then, most people won't recognize the slippery slope until after they realize they're on skis.
