Kerry is, as usual, full of it.

FACT: Kerry voted against most of the equipment that our military uses today. If he had his way, we'd have been far less equipped to fight Iraq or, for that matter, a bunch of French girlscouts.

FACT: Kerry voted against an $87 billion package to support our troops when they were already in Iraq. Oh, that's right, he voted for it before he voted against it.

FACT: If Bush delayed the invasion for another 6 months or a year, Kerry would've been in the vanguard of those criticizing Bush for not doing enough to fight terrorism.

Not surprisingly, there are at least a couple of lies in this little press release. First, General Ellis is Commander of U.S. Forces Command, based at Ft. McPherson, GA, outside Atlanta. He doesn't lead or command anything in Iraq. As FORSCOM commander, he heads a supporting command, i.e. he sends units to support the warfighting CINC, in this case General Abazaid of CENTCOM. Additionally, when a FORSCOM unit arrives in theater, Ellis loses operational control of them--they become a CENTCOM asset. Ellis' role in Iraq is nothing more than interested spectator...Kerry's press release makes it sound like a senior American commander IN THEATER is complaining about the lack of armoved HMVEES.

Secondly, General Ellis' memo is, essentially, a push for more Stryker combat vehicles which recently entered service in Iraq. That begs an obvious question: how did Senator Kerry vote on the Stryker program? The GOP counterpoint should be: how many times did Kerry vote against a vehicle that could save lives in Iraq?

Remember? It was supposed to be a walk over. There would be little occupation or need for defense against an insurgent movement.
The Iraqi military would surrender with minimal resistance (as it did) and the entire country would welcome us with flowers and open arms (which did happen most places) and all Iraqis would immediately turn against thousands of years of cultural heritage and embrace democracy - which did not happen.

This is too funny, this guy claims he knows what it is like to fight. I know what it is like to have Congressmen to vote against expanding the military budget and complain to admirals that shit is falling apart because people like Kerry voted against increasing the military budget.

Kerry did some 'good' stuff while in Nam. But that is overshadowed by his grand efforts to get those 3 purple hearts so he could get out. And it's overshadowed by the lies he told about the guys in Nam once he came home.

You may have gotten that impression. But as I recall, Bush was pretty clear it would take some time to stabilize Iraq.

True, hasn't happened yet. Well, some have embraced it. The folks coming in from Iran, however, are sent there to stir up anti-democracy sentiment among the nutcases. As Bush indicated from the beginning, it will take time to stabilize Iraq.

Or the war in Iraq that took *12 years* of sanctions, no-fly zones and bombing runs before we "lost patience"?
