WASHINGTON -- Tossing a verbal egg at Dick Cheney's military record, Sen. Frank Lautenberg blasted the vice president Wednesday as the "lead chickenhawk," who squawks about John Kerry's Vietnam War record despite never serving himself.
"The chickenhawk has no idea what it means to have the courage to put your life at risk to defend this nation," Lautenberg said on the Senate floor. "But they are quick to disparage those who did sacrifice."

A new low. A sitting Senator calls the sitting Vice President a "chickenhawk" from the well of the Senate.
Unbelievable.

Lautenberg spent three years in the Army and came out a corporal (same as today's E-4).
There he was in the world's greatest war in history and he couldn't get promoted ~ sounds almost like Kurt Waldheim who went into the German army as a lieutenant and came out a lieutenant.
Was it a behavior problem, or a decided lack of interest in military service that held him back?
No doubt it took the draft to get this guy into a uniform.

I heard this on Rush. They left out the stammering. If the speech hadn't been so offensive, the delivery would have been hysterically funny.

I first met Frank Lautenberg many years ago when he ran ADP. He was a windbag then who could bore salespeople to death with his annual dronings trying to rally the troops. It was obvious to everyone that he was an embarrasement who had to be "retired." The only thing that has changed about him is his age and circumstance.

How ironic - more and more of the party that hates the military are starting to disparage people because they "never served in the military"...Just goes to show that they don't stand for anything but what they think will sound good to...to...to...the average idiot on the street.

I called Lautenberg's office earlier. I told them I was sending a donation to the Bush campaign in the Lautenberg's name.
FYI, his DC phone number is 202-224-3224. I got through in my third attempt. Many people were calling the Senator's office today.

Open your eyes, man. It has been the RINOs and ONLY the RINOs defending against these attacks. The right wing conservatives of the GOP have been cowering under the table for weeks.
When Kennedy attacked 3 weeks ago, only Colin Powell (crawling out of the hospital from cancer surgery) responded. He stood up and defended Bush.
When Kerry began a tirade two weeks ago, only McCain stood up on Meet The Press and spent valuable minutes on national TV talking about how the president was doing and had done a great job and the virtues and strengths of the Republican Party.
Where were our right wing firebrands when the president needed defending? Cowering somewhere as far away from cameras as they could get.
Take a look at the last 2-3 weeks and learn who is and who is not a loyal Republican.

First of all, my FEMALE eyes are open.
Second, someone posted above that McCain "laid into" Sen. Lautenberg after his speech. I just wanted to know what McCain said?
As for McCain, I'm not a fan. He has been no defender of the administration.
Classic McCain:
"I think the Democratic party is a fine party, and I have no problems with it, in their views and their philosophy."
Taking a shot at President Bush, he said "You can't fly in on an aircraft carrier and declare victory and have the deaths continue. You can't do that. Many people in this room question, legitimately whether we should have gone in or not."

Take heart! The RINOS got Specter past the conservative Toomey. The RINOS got Schwarzenegger past his conservative challenger, McClintock. We will soon have a RINO majority in the Congress to practice bipartisanship with their democratic ideologues. Praise be to Allah! With both wings of the Demorep party in control, soon we will be able to decide our leaders with a coin flip. No issues, no debate, no nation.

Where does his high regard for the security of Israel stand in this particular bad-mouthing?
Maybe, in a back-had way, it's the highest of compliments to Mr. Cheney, in that Mr. Lieberman is so confident and assured that the Bush-Cheney Team is so firmly behind Israel he can take cheap shots like this.

"The chickenhawk has no idea what it means to have the courage to put your life at risk to defend this nation," Lautenberg said on the Senate floor. I'm sure Lautenberg realizes that Dick Cheney is target-number-two for about every terrorist out there. As well as his family being a target. Lautenberg is a real a jerk.

What's not to be believed? He shouldn't even be a senator. The rats ignored their own election laws and their judges said the law didn't matter to get him on the ballot. They are quick to call into question the legitimacy of others but stink to high heavens of their own hypocrisy.

This would be the legitimately elected Senator Lautenberg who is an established icon of democracy and the prime example of a political system that elects representatives according to established laws and principles.
I certainly would not want to miss any criticisms that he may care to express about political office holders.

Both back bench Congressmen. Neither a Senator. Neither a leader of the party. Never heard of either until your post, actually.
Only prominent RINOs have had the courage to defend Bush the last few weeks. Where are the GOP Senators? Where are the leaders and firebrands? Where is Frist? Where is Shelby? Where is KB Hutchison? Where is Christopher Bond of MO? Where is Lindsey Graham?
Nowhere. We counter only with Colin Powell (moderate), McCain (moderate), Condi Rice (moderate (pro Af. Action)). Where are our conservatives? Why the distance from the camera? This is horrible.

I never considered most of the Senate "Conservative". Mostly beltwayite wimps. "Beltwayitis" is a good word for that. I'm sure you remember how much Lott was maligned on the right, and Frist is no better. Hard to explain, but perhaps the best way is to mention how often a senator wins the presidency
And while I disagree with his abortion stance, I miss Alan Simpson.
