The vast majority of the United Nations' oil-for-food contracts in Iraq have mysteriously vanished, crippling investigators trying to uncover fraud in the program, a government report charged yesterday

No Saddam records either? I should think his would be meticulously accurate.

The article fails to mention it was the French who were charged with auditing the program.

Coffee Annan son Kojo was in charge of overseeing the program through company based in Switzerland.

>>>>>WE NEED TO TAKE OUT MONEY BACK FROM THE U.N. AND TELL THEM THEIR LEASE HAS EXPIRED .. OR CONDEMN THE BUILDING AND GIVE THEM 10 DAYS TO VACATE THE PLACE BEFORE WE BLOW IT UP<<<

Perhaps the influential family who donated East River lot to UN would not be very pleased with this design.

There is easier way. NYFD should do the inspection of the building and close it because it pose a fire hazard.

The application for building of new building denied.

The land the UN building sits on is "neutral". IT IS NOT USA SOIL; that's part of the problem.

My point was WHO made it neutral.

The UN might well have located elsewhere, and came to have its headquarters in New York largely as a result of substantial inducements. The organizational meeting of fifty countries took place in San Francisco in 1945, and the first meetings of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council both took place in London in January 1946. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. offered to contribute $8.5 million (about $75 million in year 2000 dollars) to purchase a six-block tract on the East River, already assembled by private developer William Zeckendorf, [4] and this offer was accepted by the General Assembly in December 1946. New York City contributed additional land along the East River and rights to the waterfront, and made alterations to the surrounding streets and land valued at about $20 million (about $143 million in 2000 dollars). [5] In 1948, the US provided an interest-free loan of $65 million (about $465 million in year 2000 dollars) for the construction and furnishing of UN headquarters. [6]

After consulting with the City and the State of New York, the United States government signed an agreement in 1947, providing that the UN headquarters would be under the control and authority of the United Nations and "inviolable." [7] The UN may not be dispossessed of its headquarters property, or removed from its headquarters, except by its own decision. [8] To the extent requested by the UN Secretary-General, appropriate American authorities (local, state and federal) must provide public services, including police and fire protection, utilities, telephone, and refuse and snow removal. 5. Official files of President Harry S. Truman, February 10, 1948, cited in UNITED NATIONS: Planning for Headquarters Renovation is Reasonable: United States Needs to Decide Whether to Support Work (Washington: US General Accounting Office, 2001) (hereinafter "GAO Report"), 44.
6. GAO Report, 17.
7. Agreement Between the United Nations and the United States of America Regarding the Headquarters of the United Nations (June 26, 1947), approved by joint congressional resolution, Act of August 4, 1987, Pub. L. No. 80-357, Art. III, Sec. 7.

Bush went to the UN prior to the War and the UN refused to act. He also said if the UN refused to act it would become irrelevant.

John Kerry insists we should have used the UN to solve the problem in Iraq. John Kerry has built his campaign around the UN. George Bush will show the absolute corruption of the UN about September. He will show the UN gave him no choice except to act together with our allies because the UN, the French, the Germans and the Russians had been bought off by Saddam. John Kerry will then be in the position of defending a corrupt UN that was supporting Saddam. :)

The UN will become irrelevant.

We must never forget that "fascism" is merely criminally corrupt socialism.

The corrupt world socislist movement running the UN is full of criminally corrupt governmentalists gaming the billion$ floating through the ruling class backscratching system.

The UN's culture, like the M.E., enjoys "bahksheesh", Arabic for money under the table. Kofi & Co. are dipping crooks and conspiring to steal more billion$ for their own dyna$ties.

Like the Clinton Library, the UN is beyond the reach of law enforcement imposed on you and me.

Wait a minute, people. This thing may be corrupt as Hell, but it has a really nice name.

"Oil for Food" is a sacred name. You can't be against it. If you don't support the Oil for Food program, you must be in favor of bombs and starving children and stuff. You're probably worse than Newt Gingrich.

Never mind the result, it's good intentions that matter. Ask any liberal. Do-gooders cannot be faulted, even when everything they do turns out to be stupid and wrong. You watch: when the New York Times finally tells everyone on the Upper West Side what to think and write, this will all be Bush's fault.

Per your item [7]

The building is in dire need of repair. The USA has offered to LOAN the UN the money with a 5% (I believe) interest rate. The UN wants the loan to be interest free. The USA has politely said NO!

I can't help but wonder if this is a ploy to get the UN to choose another location.

I think the establishment has no intention of deporting the UN. Too many globalists in DC. However, remember we have a seat at the Security Council and listening to every nation within the UN structure. The "regular" Jane's and Joe's of America have quite different mindset to country than that elitist cabal that favors interdependence rather national sovereignty.
