I have been avidly following this story and this is the first I heard about the check to Gore. Link, please?

Really? This has been reported in the press. If you go to fec.gov you can search individual donations. When you enter in "Wilson" and "Valerie" you'll find one of those entries listed as contributing $1,000 to Gore from a DC address. When you click on the link to the image you can see the actual fec report with her and her husband listed as both donating from that same address. The employer she listed was her CIA cover.

My recolloection is that the pertinent Federal Statute governing the "Outing" of covert agents has a test built into the wording which defines "covert agent". It defines such a person as someone who has had a covert assignment outside the US within the past five years.

You have been keeping close track. Do we know that Valerie Plame falls within this threshold, or is this much ado about nothing?
